8 Strategies That Drive Traffic To Your Blog

As Bloggers, we all work extremely hard to find ways to grow our site and bring in Traffic that results in loyal followers. Whether you are new to the blogging work or you’ve been at it for a while, you should always be exploring new and creative ideas to drive traffic your blog.

Consistent traffic growth helps you stay motivated; if no one is visiting your blog and viewing the posts that you’ve put a lot of work into, it can be discouraging and lead to thoughts of giving up. After all of the time, effort and energy you have put into your blog, the last thing you want to do is become discouraged and quit!

You might be asking yourself, why am I not getting more traffic on my blog? This usually isn’t an easy question to answer as a lot of factors play into the amount of traffic your blog receives. But luckily, there are a lot of different ways to bring viewers to your blog and to keep them coming back! So, if you’re struggling to bring in viewers, or having trouble growing the numbers you do have, you can examine each method for driving traffic to your blog and work to improve each area.

In order to be successful in increasing blog views and growing your following, you must have a strategy in place. Wishful thinking along with random efforts to promote your blog will not bring in the traffic! Below are some proven methods for increasing traffic. Using these methods, you can build a solid strategy for your blog.

Quality Posts

The number one factor that will produce long-term loyal readers and bring you traffic to your blog is the quality of the posts you publish. Posting every single day will not help if your content does not contain substance and quality. You will only get out what you put into your blog!

If you post sub-par content, readers will easily be able to tell and you will never be able to bring them back. While quality does not correlate with the frequency of your posts, you want to make sure you aren’t posting every day, or every couple of days, just to get something up and out there. There are many successful bloggers who do post every single day, and many others only post a couple of times a month. Find what works best for you to ensure that your quality isn’t suffering.

Always focus on quality over quantity. The best way to increase traffic is to grow your followers, those who will continue to come back and also share your content. At the end of the day, if you are not producing quality content, people will not be back.

Comment

I’m sure you have a few favorite bloggers that you look up to and get inspiration from.  Are you leaving them comments on their blog posts?  If not, then you should be!  You would be surprised the number of clicks you can get from a thoughtful or helpful comment on a fellow bloggers posts.

Start leaving comments on other bloggers posts.  If you can help someone with a problem or answer a question for them, do it as it will pay off in the long run.  Find a post you like?  Share it on social media, they will be appreciative and maybe someone will do the same for you. You may be able to gain some new followers while helping to support your fellow bloggers as well!

Pinterest

Pinterest is a major traffic driver for most blogs. If you are not on Pinterest you are missing out on a ton of traffic opportunities!  It is our number one referrer to our site, and always has been.  In the beginning, we manually pinned everything and we did okay, but it was a lot of work!  Finally, we decided to give a Pinterest scheduler a try and went with Tailwind.  They provide a free two-week trial, and during those two weeks we discovered that we loved it!
We started seeing immediate growth with Tailwind, much more than we had ever seen before. Best of all, it only takes a few minutes to schedule pins for a full day and we could easily schedule a full week in about 20 min or so. Much better than manually pinning everything!

We have seen even more growth with Pinterest after reading and implementing the tips given in the e-book, “Pinterest Ninjas.”  Megan has so much knowledge about Pinterest and provides easy-to-understand instructions in her course.  Her course is very affordable and she even covers topics beyond Pinterest, such as how to start a Facebook group and information about branding and affiliates. Since implementing Megan’s tips and using Tailwind, our Pinterest monthly viewers have grown to 1.7 million!  We are very happy about that!

Freebie

Everyone loves free stuff, right?  Give your readers something for free that will help them or fill a need like a calendar, spring cleaning checklist.  People love the chance to win something, so host a giveaway that will draw viewers to your blog and have them engage.  With a giveaway, you can have people opt-in to your email list.

If you opt to have people sign up for your email subscription, you not only bring traffic to your blog, but you are gaining valuable emails. Growing your email list is an important method for driving meaningful traffic to your blog. You can create loyal followers by sending weekly emails to your email list, providing updates on new posts, products or other promotions.

Pretty Images

We live in a visual world and everyone likes to look at visually appealing images (hello, Pinterest!).  If your image doesn’t catch someone’s attention quickly then they will keep scrolling past it, often without reading any text associated with your image.  You can have an awesome blog post and a catchy title, but if your images aren’t eye-catching then your work won’t get the attention it deserves.  Make sure you always have visually appealing images for all your posts.

To help you create gorgeous, eye-catching pins, we recommend using PicMonkey. PicMonkey is a free photo-editing software solution that provides the option to upgrade to unlock more features for editing photos and creating pin-worthy images.

Facebook Groups

Get social!  Join Facebook groups for bloggers and start interacting with other bloggers and promoting your site.  We have joined several groups and they have helped to grow our blog and social media tremendously! Another great benefit of being a member of these groups is If you need help with something, you can always ask questions in the group and people are more than happy to help. You can also help others if they have a question as well. Be sure to help out your fellow bloggers if you can!

Guest Post

Many bloggers will accept guest posts.  Find a blogger in your niche that you admire and reach out to them to see if they accept guest posts.  If so, research the type of posts that they have the most success with and come up with an idea for a post that will appeal to their readers while also in your niche. A guest post on the right blog can be just what you need to make your traffic soar!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, has become one of the most talked about methods for driving a large amount of traffic to your blog lately, though it has been a factor for a long time. Search engines, such as Google, are built using complex algorithms that present results based on the keyword search. As a website owner, the higher up you show in the search results, the more traffic you will bring to your site. SEO is all about trying to rank your pages higher in search results.

SEO is a deep subject and requires some time to learn and more time to implement effectively. It takes some dedication, but trust us, it will definitely pay off in the long run! There are multiple aspects that contribute to SEO, such as good, quality content that provides value to your readers, strategically placed keywords, such as in the title, URL, and in the body of your post, and your meta descriptions, just to name a few. There’s far too much to discuss here, so we encourage you to do your research on this topic and work to implement this strategy right from the beginning.

Promoting your blog, bringing in traffic and gaining loyal followers can take some time, but it is well worth the effort. Using the methods we introduced above, you can build a great strategy that will lead you to success with your blog. Trial and error are to be expected. Not every method will work as great as you wanted it to, but you will find and perfect other methods along the way with the right amount of dedication!
