1. What got you interested in the Paleo lifestyle?

My interest in the paleo lifestyle came from my need for physical healing from my chronic illness and autoimmune disorders. I went from being extremely active to being 16 and not able to lift a cup of water or get out of bed. I was diagnosed with a myriad of health struggles including: chronic pain, leaky gut, fibromyalgia, adrenal burnout, mono, a pile of allergies, high mold and virus counts all throughout my body, and so much more! Eating paleo has allowed me to live vibrantly within my dietary restrictions! You can read my full health journey here.

2. What excites you most about writing/blogging and helping people get healthier?

Oh my, so many things!!! My journey has transformed me. I have such a deep compassion for people who are suffering from health struggles! Seeing the pain in someone’s eyes or hearing the stories of one who is suffering puts a fire in me to do anything in my power to help them! If that means sharing a recipe that will give someone joy in the midst of their trials, sharing resources, or giving encouragement, I want to be there for them! This is where the fuel for my blog comes from!

3. What is the top question asked by your readers?

People ask me all the time how I survive off of “rabbit food”. The truth is both I do and I don’t… Yes, I am in LOVE with vegetables and eat piles of them in every meal and never get tired of it! On the other hand though, I have learned that treating myself to a paleo treat once in a while is the key to the success of sticking with a healthy diet. Having options to satisfy my cravings is the best way to stay on track and keep myself happy and feel like I’m not missing out!

4. How do your family and friends feel about your Paleo life?

My friends and family are completely supportive of my eating choices! I have taught several paleo cooking lessons to friends and have a whole family of more than willing taste-testers! I grew up in a very health-conscious family, so the fridge has always been stocked with plenty of greens making clean eating as normal as breathing.

5. What are three things you’ve told yourself that kept you going during your weakest moment?

  1. I know the repercussions of eating something my body doesn’t receive well, so I usually don’t think about what I can’t eat. I just try and create paleo options to anything I am craving
  2. I tell myself there aren’t other options. If I focus on what I CAN eat I am less susceptible to slipping up. If I am obsessing over what I can’t eat, it’s only going to cause frustration. The first couple months eating strict paleo can be hard to get used to, but after that, it’s a breeze
  3. I remind myself that eating something that I shouldn’t might taste good, but afterwards is another story! I find though, that the things I used to think tasted really good don’t really have the same appeal to me anymore. I have been paleo for over 3 years now and I love it!

6. If you had a list of ‘best-kept secrets’ [websites, books, coaches] you’d recommend, which would you include and why?

There are so many incredible resources out there, and I have been blessed by so many! Here are a few of my faves:

  1. Diane Sanfilippo’s book, Practical Paleo has been one of the biggest insights for me! In her book, She clearly explains and makes paleo simple and fun and addresses many questions and concerns that readers might have!
  2. Everyday Paleo is Sarah Fragoso’s paleo blog. Sarah’s cookbook, Everyday Paleo was the very first paleo cookbook I bought when it first came out. I read this thing cover to cover, again and again, She was the one who taught me how to cook using paleo ingredients. I love that this book includes daily workouts in the back of the book!
  3. Danielle Walker’s cookbooks and blog continually inspire me! Her health journey and wisdom has taught and encouraged me as I cook to heal.
