Trader Joe's Tea Tree Oil Pure Vegetable Soap

The Trader Rater Rating: 9.2166666666667

Review Summary: Though we had to look up some of the ingredients from this Soap (don't worry, they're mostly harmless!), we liked the fragrance and performance of this soap. And at $1 per bar, it's a steal!

Full Review:

Tea Tree Oil Pure Vegetable Soap from Trader Joe'sAs we’ve previously mentioned, we’ve firmly decided to be more conscious of the bath and body products we use – in an effort to reduce our chemical intake and live a little cleaner (no pun intended. Ok, maybe a little). Truthfully, there are enough easy options out there if you’re looking for healthier products and don’t break the bank. This soap hits that category squarely.

First off, the soap comes in a 2 bar pack – and it’s priced at about $1 per bar. Right there that’s a steal. Secondly, it’s produced without animal by-products and it’s not tested on animals. That’s a plus in our book.

Next up, the ingredients list. Thankfully, it’s short (only 7 ingredients) and mostly understandable. Truthfully, it’s not as short as the 5 ingredients in our go-to Trader Joe’s soap, but still, short is good. We admittedly did have to look up a few ingredients to confirm their origin and toxicity, but we were mostly pleased with our findings.

Here’s the short list:

Sodium Palmate: a surfactant and emulsifying agent (i.e. key soap ingredient). Sodium Palmate is the end product of Saponification – the process whereby palm oil is treated with sodium hydroxide.

Sodium Palm Kernelate: also derived from the process of Saponification. Sodium Palm Kernelate is a sodium salt of the acids derived from Palm Oil (AKA palm kernel oil).

Sodium Chloride: salt.

Pentasodium Pentetate: an inorganic salt that binds metal, and inactivates metallic ions in order to enhance foaming and cleaning, and to prevent soap ingredients from remaining on your skin after use.

All told, the list of ingredients sound rather innocuous, but that’s for you to judge for yourself. As for the performance of the soap overall, we really liked the light, Tea Tree Oil fragrance – it wasn’t overpowering and didn’t linger unnaturally. We also found that the soap provided adequate moisture and left our skin feeling soft and clean with no residue (thanks, Pentasodium Pentetate!).

Point is, we’ll be stocking up on this soap again!
