The Capsicum team recently welcomed our new #StudentChefs who started their culinary studies last month. We know that this is an exciting time for our students as they envision and anticipate their future by taking the first steps towards realising their culinary dreams.

The induction programme at Capsicum starts that journey and is packed with fun and learning, here are some highlights from our campuses.
Boksburg Campus
The new students learned what to Expect from their culinary studies and more about each other through exciting team challenges like icing cupcakes blindfolded, naming ingredients and kitchen utensils, as well as seeing which group could peel the most vegetables with one peeler.
Cape Town Campus
Students were treated to demonstrations on how to make ice-cream using liquid nitrogen, as well as learning how organic, carbonated drinks are made. Their induction was completed with a lesson in food photography.
Durban Campus
New students were inducted with a fun sports day where they played action cricket and netball, which proved to be a great icebreaker! Thereafter, they enjoyed a social braai and got to know one another. They were also introduced to all the chef lecturers who gave them a glimpse as to what they could expect in the coming months.
Port Elizabeth Campus
Students took part in team activities such as the Amazing Race where they had to follow food-related clues and they were then required to boil the perfect egg using wood, a coke tin and firelighters!
Pretoria Campus
The students spent the first few days getting to know one another and all the exciting things they would be learning. They also got an inspirational talk from someone who had shared a similar journey and started her own successful business, followed by a Masterchef challenge to ensure they were more than ready for their first day.
Sunninghill Campus
Students were taken through the kitchens and given a full description of how everything works and what they could expect in terms of their studies, Capsicum and the industry. They also got a visit from Stephen Hickmore (a specialist recruiter for the hospitality industry) on what to expect and how to market themselves after their studies.
