Detox Cranberry Lemon Ginger Tea is simple to make, free of added sugar, and excellent for natural detoxification. It will help eliminate excess water weight, support healthy digestion, and has a great flavor too!

After a holiday season filled with treats galore, heavier comfort food meals, late nights with friends and family, and a season full of a stressing out over gifts, busy holiday schedules, and cooking and wrapping to-do lists a mile long, our bodies need a break in more ways than one.

Detoxing during the new year is a popular way to get the body back on track after the holidays, but there are many harmful detox diets out there that can end up doing more harm than good. Lucky for all of us, it’s quite easy to help our bodies detox naturally, just by eating simple foods and drinking beneficial beverages like this Detox Cranberry Lemon Ginger Tea.

Detox Cranberry Lemon Ginger Tea

This tea works wonderfully for relieving water weight that may be the result of eating too much salt, added sugar, or fatty meals, but it’s also a great simple drink to make to settle digestion and improve blood flow due to the ingredients it contains. I personally love to enjoy it first thing in the morning to ease my way into the day and settle my stomach before beginning daily tasks.

This Detox Cranberry Lemon Ginger Tea is an excellent detox drink if you’ve had a night out on the town, ate a heavy meal, or just want to feel your best slipping into a new outfit or back into your favorite pair of jeans. The best part? It’s made with simple, natural ingredients including lemon, ginger, and cranberry tea made from real cranberries.

Why cranberry herbal tea instead of cranberry juice?

I prefer to use a cranberry herbal tea bag with water instead of cranberry juice since it has no sugar, where cranberry juice does, and will work more efficiently for the detox purposes intended. Fruit juices that are more concentrated in sugars can sometimes lead to bloating, depending on your body and how you digest different sugars. Many bottled cranberry juices and drinks sold at the store also contain added (refined) sugar along with preservatives, which is not optimal when detoxing or trying to get rid of excess water weight.

Cranberry tea is sold in tea bags, however, is made from real cranberries and that’s (normally) it. I prefer it since it’s a more natural, beneficial approach to obtaining the detoxifying benefits that cranberries contain and also reduces the amount of added sugar in a tea recipe at the same time.

Tip: You can usually find cranberry tea bags sold in a box at supermarkets and superstores located on the aisle with the boxed herbal teas, or you can easily order it online to save money and time.

Why the cranberry, lemon, ginger combo?

Lemon and ginger both stimulate digestion and soothe indigestion symptoms at the same time while cranberry helps relieve excess fluid due to the way it acts as a natural diuretic to shed excess water weight.

Aside from getting rid of water weight, cranberries are also a popular food known to help combat unhealthy levels of bacteria in the body, not to mention they’re chock-full of antioxidants. If you’d like, you can also add some fresh cranberries to the recipe for a seasonal touch or just enjoy it without fresh berries. Also, feel free to prepare this recipe as a warm tea or enjoy it over ice if you prefer your tea chilled.

Detox Cranberry Lemon Ginger Tea

Ingredients

  • 1 cranberry herbal tea bag (sold in a box at the store in the tea aisle)
  • Juice of one lemon (plus a slice for garnish)
  • 1/2 inch whole ginger root, sliced (or 1/4 tsp ground ginger powder)
  • 12 ounces of warm water (a large cup/mugful)
  • Optional: a touch of stevia or sweetener of choice to sweeten if desired
  • Optional: fresh cranberries for brewing to add extra flavor and nutrition

Instructions

  1. For a hot tea, bring the water and ginger root (and the cranberries if using) to a boil in a sauce pan on the stove.
  2. Once the water has come to a boil, turn off the heat, place the cranberry tea bag into a mug of choice, and gently pour the water on top of a strainer into a mug to steep the tea bag. Discard the ginger root (and cranberries if using) or save for a later use.
  3. Allow the tea to steep for 1 minute or so in the mug and then add the juice of a lemon, stevia or sweetener of choice if using, and serve.
  4. Feel free to garnish with a lemon slice if desired.
  5. Sip your tea warm or prepare this a day ahead by following the same steps, allowing the tea to cool completely, and then enjoy it over ice!

Notes

Home Chef Tip: An easy way to prepare this tea as a chilled tea ahead of time is to make it in a French press just like you would cold-brew coffee. To do so, simply place the contents of the tea bag, the cranberries, the ginger root, and water in a French press up to an hour before you want to drink the tea (no need to boil the water first). Then, simply strain the tea, pour over ice, add the lemon juice, and enjoy!

Don’t forget that cranberries, lemon, and ginger can be enjoyed in other ways as well to get the benefits of each of these foods’ detoxification benefits.

Try having cranberries in a smoothie, in oatmeal, or even a fruit sorbet! Or add lemon and ginger to your tea whenever you can and even try adding a wedge of lemon and a small slice of ginger root into your smoothie. There are many ways to get the benefits of these foods, although I have to say that this tea is one of my very favorites. I hope you love it as much as I do!
