Now we all know Christmas is a time filled with fun, food and family which often means in a little (or a lot) overindulgence, but we can lessen the need for strict diets come January with a few handy products to break up the feast on roast potatoes, stuffing and mince pies, while making no extra cooking work at such a busy time.
Enter juices and smoothies, either super fast to whizz up in your blender or one of the ready made versions can sit bottled for you in the fridge for when you need a blast of nutrients.
Drinking a Fruit and vegetable juice or a smoothie before a meal will leave you less likely to overeat and fill your tummy with tonnes of fibre to help your body to digest all of the heavy Christmas foods and lighten the classic lethargy from a carb coma! Not to mention the hefty dose of vitamins and minerals to fight fatigue and keep you energised over such a busy time of year.
Here are my top 5 on hand, ready made health boosters;

Aura is my favourite flavour! Even better, delivery to the UK and a number of European destinations is completely FREE and each bottle costs just 3.50 EUROS, approx £2.50, making this the cheapest of it’s kind for fantastic quality!
Plenish – UK based premium cold pressed juice company Plenish creates a range of organic, raw, nutrient packed fruit and vegetable juices and deliciously creamy nut milks. With 6 nourishing blends of juice to choose from and 2 nut milks, you will never get bored. The two new juices, Lift and Boost, include over 1/2kg of organic produce – perfect for getting your 7 a day and boosting immunity.

Vita Coco – Now we all know that keeping hydrated is essential to well-being and why not switch out your normal glass of water with coconut water? Coconut Water boasts electrolytes, enzymes and more potassium than a banana, plus its fat free, low in carbs, sugar and low calorie. It has a natural balance of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium making it a truly healthy electrolyte drink, move over gatorade. Vita Coco coconut waters are chemical free and widely available. It is great added to your morning smoothie or as an afternoon pick-me-up instead of caffeine and sugar laden coffee.
Aduna – This wont be the first time I’ve raved about multi award winning Aduna on Bunny Kitchen. I used their Moringa in this Basil & Nectarine Green Smoothie and offered a giveaway of their wonderful Baobab. They are a highly ethical company, carefully and fairly sourcing some of the worlds finest superfoods and making them available to us for our health benefit. ““The African baobab fruit is one of the world’s most nutrient-dense superfoods and grows in thirty-two countries across the continent. There is no such thing as a baobab plantation; every tree is community-owned and wild-harvested.” Moringa is a natural multivitamin, high in antioxidants and 25% protein! Add these superfoods to your smoothies, juices, cereals, oats, baking and more for a truly sensational nutritional boost. Make it easy for yourself or a loved one with their luxurious gift boxes which are now on offer from just £14.99 with a selection of all the products!
Indigo Herbs – Glastonbury based Indigo Herbs is your one stop shop for all things health, herbs and superfoods. Their range is so extensive from nut and seed butters to wholefoods (nuts, seeds, grains, fruits etc) to raw chocolate kits! I adore their range and have a whole host of their products in constant supply. Some of my favourites are chia seed protein powder, hibiscus tea, pumpkin seed butter and red banana powder. These are not only great additions to smoothies, juices and teas but can be used in baking, sauces and desserts like this Yeasted Pumpkin Seed Fruit Loaf, Summer Watercress and Asparagus Lasagne and Carrot Cake with Vanilla Yoghurt Sauce.
If none of those tickle your fancy then perhaps this decadent yet good for you smoothie will. It’s rich enough for dessert but healthy enough for breakfast. Low in saturated fat, no cholesterol, low in sodium, high in manganese and very high in vitamin C. What more could you want?
Ingredients: Serves 1
- 25g/1/4 cup toasted pecans
- 1 large medjool date or 2 regular dates
- 375ml/1.5 cups coconut water
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (preferably Vietnamese)
- 1 tbsp vegan sweet mincemeat (optional)
If your pecans aren’t already toasted, place in a non stick pan over a medium heat, tossing regularly for about 5 minutes or until fragrant, being careful not to burn them. Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender like a Froothie until smooth and creamy.
