The most spectacular pork shoulder fajitas

The most spectacular pork shoulder fajitas are made in the oven, honest. This is actually how to make pulled Pork recipe that will show you how easy it to make pork fajitas. So are you ready to learn how you can make the most spectacular pork shoulder fajitas? Lets get started!

If you love pulled pork but the thought of making it yourself is daunting this recipe will take your fears away. This recipe can be made with a slow cooker, a pressure cooker or a crockpot but I just use my trusted oven.

What all of them do is make sure that the moist that evaporates stays in the pan, slow cooker, crockpot. That is way you need to close the lid of the pan when you put it in the oven. I made the mistake to put the pan in the oven but without the lid on. It would take much longer for the meat to go soft and usually it would be very dry. Even after adding lots of water during cooking process.

Then I made the no knead bread recipe and it called for the lid on the pan to keep the moisture inside. That made me decide to do the same with my meat dishes and it worked beautifully. To get tender shredded brisket beef or pulled chicken all followed the same routine. Close the pan before you put it in the oven and you have the best slow cooker or crock pot you can find.

Pork shoulder fajitas ingredients

To make this recipe you need the following ingredients in your shopping cart to serve 3 to 4 people:

  • Pork shoulder
  • Brown sugar
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Fajitas seasoning mix
  • Tomato puree
  • Garlic
  • Onion (half minced, half sliced)
  • Yellow bell pepper
  • Orange bell pepper
  • Olive oil for cooking
  • Small fajitas tortillas
  • Diced scallions

You can also use pork shoulder chops for this recipe. If you like you can take the bone out before cooking. However as the meat will be so tender after cooking it will fall of the bone. So if you he leave the bone it will be alright.

What makes this recipe so spectacular is the softness of the pork. To achieve this soft moist meat you need to add some acidity to the pork as it will help make the meat go soft. The secret ingredient to get this done is apple cider vinegar.

No worries as you will not taste any apple, although apple and pork go great together. The apple cider will do a great job and turn the pork into the softest meat you ever tasted.

How to make pork shoulder fajitas

Preheat your oven at 470℉/225℃. Start with the meat. Heat a Dutch oven and add oil to sear the pork. Bake for a couple of minutes then turn an sear the other side of the meat. Take out of the pan and set aside.

Add some oil if necessary and pan fry the minced onion and garlic until soft. Then add the brown sugar and tomato puree stir thoroughly. Then add the apple cider vinegar and stir again before returning the pork into the pan. Take two tablespoons of fajitas seasoning and add on top of the meat.

Add about a cup of water to cover the meat and bring to the boil before you put in the oven for 90 minutes. Turn the meat half way through the cooking time and add more water if necessary. The meat should be largely covered with liquids.

In the last 15 minutes of the oven time heat a skillet and add some oil. Put the sliced bell peppers and onion in the pan and let them go soft on medium heat. Just stir slightly and keep warm until you are ready to plate up your fajitas

Wrap the fajitas tortillas in aluminium foil and let them warm in the hot oven for 5 minutes. In the meantime take the pork shoulder out of the pan and pull apart with two forks.

Now it is time to plate up your fajitas. Start with a tortilla, add some bell pepper and onion mix. Then pulled pork shoulder and decorate with scallions and serve.

It is really such an easy pulled pork recipe. If you do not eat all of the pork store it in the fridge and make a pulled pork sandwich the next day. The taste gets even better if you leave it over night.
