After a couple of sweet favorites it is time for a savory one and this Spicy Soy Pork is such a great recipe. I love soft tender meat and a great combination with Chinese steamed buns. It tastes just like the first bapao I ever had. Do you want to learn my favorite how to make spicy soy pork recipe? Lets get started!
The first time I ate bapao I was 8 years old. We went into a small Chinese Toko. All kinds of different scents and smells came our way when we walked into the Toko to buy bapao. We went home and warmed them in a small steamer pan. I never forget the taste of the soft fluffy steamed bun first and the pork meat in soy sauce second.
I have been trying to perfect this recipe over the years. Trying to recreate the taste of the pork in that bun. Now it is time to share it with you. This recipe needs quite a few ingredients, only a couple of steps and an oven or slow cooker.
You need the following ingredients:
- Fricandeau pork
- Brown sugar or palm sugar
- Sweet soy sauce
- Hoisin sauce
- Sriracha sauce
- Apple cider vinegar
It takes about 5 minutes to put all the ingredients together. You start with the sugar and water and stir to combine. Then the soy, hoisin, sriracha, honey and apple cider vinegar. When combined add the onion and shallots. Let it soften and then add the fricandeau pork. Stir to coat the meat and then fill the pan with water.
Now it is time to let the oven do the work and let it cook for 60-80 minutes until completely soft. Check halfway through if more water is required. Ready to serve.
This recipe taste amazing with Chinese steamed buns as a canapé or appetizer. You can easily make these yourself and I will share the recipe next. If you can’t wait you this recipe also tastes great with Basmati rice and vegetables.
