VEGAN BREAKFAST IN LIVERPOOL

I moved to Liverpool in January 2017 and shortly after discovered how many Vegan Breakfast options the city centre offers. So, my partner and I started going out for breakfast every other week. The list of places we have visited is now decent so I decided to start a blog post and review the places here. I will add places when I visit a new one to give an as complete as possible pictures of the options in Liverpool. Of course, it is our personal opinion about the food and you might not agree.

The places are listed alphabetically. The price range is referring only to the breakfast dish we had. Ever dish was between £4.95 (£) and £8.50 (£££). Also, the review I leave her is only about the vegan breakfast and not other dishes on the menu.

Brasco Lounge

Location: 27A Mann Island, Liverpool Waterfront, Liverpool, L3 1BP
Website  |  Menu

Price Range: £
Variety: Separate vegan menu with plenty of options

Food: I normally go for the vegan breakfast which contains: homemade vegan sausages, hash browns, baked beans, slow-roasted tomato, sautéed mushrooms, spinach, wood-roasted pepper and toast.
My only critic here is that the vegan sausages are very similar to the hash browns since they are on a potato basis too. Other than that I really like this breakfast. It is a good portion size and they hand vegan spread for the toast.

Drinks: They do not always have soy milk but if they do you get decent versions of the common milk coffee options.

Service: Food is ordered and paid at the counter since it is more an eatery than a restaurant. The staff there is always friendly and helpful.

Ambience: One of the cosiest places we have been so far. It looks like everything comes from a flea market but is put together very tastefully. The walls are full of pictures which give a lot to talk about. The window front gives the light to make the ambience friendly instead of just dim.

Summary: A cosy place with nice food for a good price. We will definitely go back!

Brunch Club

Location: 37-41 Duke St, Liverpool, L1 5AP
Website  |  Menu

Price Range: ££
Variety: Decent

Food: Vegan breakfast contains: falafel sausage, hummus, avocado smash, baked beans, grilled tomato, broccoli and toast. I was not impressed with the falafel which was too soft for my taste but cannot complain about anything else. The portion size was good and the overall impression OK. However, we never felt the urge to go back to this place.

Drink: We were unlucky with our coffee choice (soy milk was burnt) and since we were there only once I cannot tell if this is standard or not.

Service: Food is ordered and paid at the counter since it is more an eatery than a restaurant.

Ambience: It is a nice place with a wanted used look. The window front brings light in a rather dim room.

Summary: Nice place, we were not impressed with food and drinks We will still give it another try to find out with we were simply unlucky.

Cosy Club

Location: 37c Paradise Street, Liverpool, L13EU
Website  |  Menu

Price Range: ££
Variety: Decent

Food: The vegan breakfast contains: Grilled tomato, field mushroom, falafel, wood-roasted peppers, spinach, fried potatoes and baked beans with toast. I ordered some extra avocado, which was definitely a good choice. The portion size is rather small, the food was ok. Nothing tasted freshly made, they can definitely step up their game there.

Drink: The soy-milk cappuccino was nice, nothing to moan about.

Service: We had nice service by a super friendly guy.

Ambience: The ambience was probably the biggest disappointment. They say ‘Cosy Club’, they tried but they did not achieve it. It was the same approach as Brasco Lounge: different second-hand furniture and plenty of pictures on the wall. Unfortunately, the ceiling at this place is extremely high and therefore the acoustics is hollow which ruins the cosiness of the place.

Summary: Staff was nice, ambience does not keep up with what the name promises. We will probably not go back.

Egg Café

Location: Top Floor, 16 – 18 Newington, Liverpool, L1 4ED
Website  |  Menu (might not be up to date)

Price Range: £
Variety: Everything  is vegetarian and vegan

Food: Definitely the lowest price of all the places we have been so far. Portions size is ok. Vegan breakfast contains scrumbled tofu, beaked beans, vegan sausages, grilled tomato, mushrooms and toast with vegan spread. It is a nice breakfast and so far the closest to a full English.

Drink: A cup of tea or an Americano are included in the price, nothing to moan about.

Service: Food is ordered and paid at the counter since it is more an eatery than a restaurant. The staff there is always friendly and helpful.

Ambience: The place has this alternative flair, the people coming here seem to be students, artists, musicians and other creative people. They always have art on the walls which changes every few weeks. It is super cosy and seems to be a good place to study.

Summary: Best price performance ratio so far. Easy ambience. We will definitely go back!

Leaf on Bold Street

Location: 65–67 Bold Street, Liverpool, L1 4EZ
Website  |  Menu

Price Range: ££
Variety: Decent

Food: I normally go with the vegan breakfast which contains: Falafel sausages, roast vine tomato, field mushrooms, baked beans, sourdough and spiced avocado. Portion size is OK. Food is nice. We come here once in a while.

Drinks: They offer different plant-based milk alternatives. The coffee is good but this is definitely the place to go for one of the herbal teas and infusions they offer. The variety is huge and invites to discover new flavours.

Service: Food is ordered and paid at the counter since it is more an eatery than a restaurant. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Ambience: It is a busy place so it is normally quite loud in there. I personally prefer to sit upstairs because of the high ceiling which gives you the feeling of having more space.

Summary: Nice place with OK food. Teas are a must! We will occasionally go back.

Love Thy Neighbour

Location: 108 Bold Street, Liverpool L1 4HY
Website  |  Menu

Price Range: £££
Variety: Decent

Food: The vegan breakfast contains: baked beans, mushrooms, vegan sausages, hash browns, avocado and sourdough. The portion is rather small for the price, also, the sausage is on a potato base which makes it similar to the hash brown. The avocado is definitely a plus. Overall, it is not an impressive breakfast (taste, variety and presentation) for the price you pay. I would rather recommend visiting this place for lunch since they offer way more interesting dishes than this breakfast.

Drink: The smoothies and juices are nice and make up for the rather boring breakfast.

Service: Staff is always nice and friendly.

Ambience: The decoration of this place is super lovely, light and inviting. Maybe that is the reason for our disappointment about the breakfast because the whole ambience is very promising to get a special food experience.

Summary: Very nice ambience with OK breakfast food but rather expensive. We will occasionally go back but not for breakfast.

Our Kitchen

Location: 84B Bold Street, Liverpool L1 4HR
Website  |  Menu

Price Range: £££
Variety: Separate vegan menu with plenty of options, all the other options are vegetarian.

Food: The vegan breakfast contains: grilled field mushrooms, wilted spinach, roasted peppers & onions, chargrilled long stem broccoli, black beans served with sesame tofu severed with toast. It is a nice, well-seasoned dish and probably the healthiest of all the breakfasts we had. However, it does not taste like breakfast at all. I have been at this place for dinner before and recommend to go rather for that than for breakfast.

Drinks: The coffee with plant-based milk alternatives, the juices and the smoothies are amazing! They definitely make up for the missing breakfast feeling of the dish.

Service: The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Ambience: It is a small place with a minimalist design which is still inviting and cosy.

Summary: Very nice ambience with good food but rather expensive. We will occasionally go back but not for breakfast.

Siren

Location: 54 St James Street, Liverpool, L1 0AB
Website  |  Menu

Price Range: £
Variety: Decent

Food: I went with the vegan breakfast that contained: homemade falafel, grilled tomato, homemade baked beans, mushrooms, sauteed spinach, homefries and toast. Good portion size, food was freshly made and well seasoned. Real toasted bread was handed as a side, which I personally appreciate a lot. One of the best breakfasts we had in Liverpool so far.

Drinks: Soy flat white was on point and we shared a breakfast smoothie which was nice and filling.

Service: Food is ordered and paid at the counter since it is more an eatery than a restaurant. The girl at the counter was super friendly.

Ambience: Due to the window front the whole place is full of light. The furniture is simple but matches the place perfectly. Fresh elderflower on the table added the extra freshness to the place. All in all a cosy place to have breakfast in.

Summary: Tasty and freshly made breakfast for a reasonable price. We will definitely go back!

White Wolf Kitchen

Location: 14 Cook Street, Liverpool, L2 9QU
Website  |  Menu

Price Range: ££
Variety: Completely vegan and therefore big variety

Food: I went for the Big Boston Breakfast: scrambledd tofu, black beans, avocado, seitan steak and tortilla wrap. One of my favourite breakfasts in town! Very well seasoned, good portion size, creative and rather healthy.
Drinks: I tried the vegan hot chocolate which was also a good choice. Not too sweet and perfectly chocolaty.
Service: The girls running this place are super lovely and fill the whole place with friendliness.
Ambience: I love the light, yogi atmosphere in the café. It is cosy and inviting.

Summary: Lovely place with good food. We will definitely go back!

Do you know a place in Liverpool that is worth a visit but not on this list? Please, let me know with a comment or message so I can go there and have a look myself.
