Tel-Koi is most delicious recipe is Bengali cuisine. This recipe is easy yet mouthwatering for you and it make with the minimum ingredients. Tel Koi is delicious as well as healthy dish because it contains large amount of health benefiting nutrients. “Koi fish” is the sweet water familiar fish from back home which we get from our Bangladeshi grocers.
- 6-7 Koi Fish
- 1 big size Onion Paste
- ½ tsp Ginger Paste
- ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
- Salt as per taste
- ½ tsp Kalojire/Kalonji/Nigella seeds
- 3-4 Green chilies (slitted length wise)
- 6-7 tbsp Mustard oil
TIME REQUIRED : Less than 20 minutes
Wash thoroughly, clean the guts, cut the fins and scales of the Koi fish. Rub salt and turmeric powder on the washed Koi fishes, and set aside.
Heat mustard oil in a pan or kadhai and fry the fishes on medium flame. Fry each side of the fishes, keep aside. Don’t fry Koi fishes for a long time, otherwise, they will become chewy.
Once it splutters add the Turmeric powder, Red Chili Powder
, Salt and some water. Then make a thick paste.
Now fry Kalo Jeere, Onion paste for few min.
Then add Ginger paste and sauté for few sec.
Add spice paste and little bit sugar.
Sauté till oil comes from sides of the pan then add some water. Mix in and bring to a boil then add in the fish.
Cover and cook for few min on medium heat. After boiling the gravy remove from heat and place the Tel Koi
in a serving bowl and serve with steamed rice.
