My newest novel, still under development, is about a Kentucky farmer in the 1880's who is on the run in Texas, where he's seeking work as a Cowboy. He comes to a small, dusty town called Deadwood near Texarkana, where he is greeted at the local saloon by Sheriff Gus Goodell, the kindly and irrascible old Doc Tom Marsden and Ruby Sally, a saucy dance hall girl. Drifters are nothing new to Deadwood but Sally takes an interest in this one because she thinks he is somehow different from the other saddle tramps who frequently blow through. But if she thinks she can worm more about Jake Canyon's past out of him, she's mistaken because this Kentucky man is hiding an awful secret. When a crisis hits the town and sides are drawn up, Jake has a terrible choice to make.
