The Diner, Islington

Tags: diner love food

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I love me a trip to The Diner. In a city jampacked with food options, it's my frequent go-to for tasty comfort food and fun cocktails - from burgers to nachos to margaritas there are always a bunch of good things on offer. So when I was invited along to see the newly refurbished Islington location, along with some of my faves (oh hey, Erica, Jas, Charley & Charlie), you know I was all in, right?

I've always liked the Islington branch of The Diner - it's such a great location and a frequent brunch spot for me and my girls. The new refurb looks amazing - I love the bar in the middle of the restaurant, it really opens up the space, as well as giving you somewhere to wait if you're early for your table. The outside of the room is covered with booths, perfect for that Americana vibe we all love at The Diner!

After admiring the new space and saying hey to a few other bloggers & friends who were there (always gorge to see Milly, Haydy and Kelly!), it was time to get down to the serious matter of margs and menu perusing.

So lime-y. So good.

Flexitarian me was not having meat, so I tucked into a bowl of queso (man, I love queso) while the girls tucked into wings, tots and loaded queso. Everything looked and smelled amazing.

Main course started to arrive with a hot dog for Jasmin and a whooooole heap of carbs for us all to share.

I went for the vegetarian taco salad, which was a) huge and b) delicious. Tonnes of veg, sliced peppers, guac, beans, sour cream, salsa, cheese... this was heaven on a plate.  Couldn't finish it though - it's enormous! If I'd had a bigger bag I would have take the second half home for breakfast, it was so good.

Charlie tucked into a meatloaf sandwich, a dish I'd never encountered before.  Comfort food agogo.

As well as the enormo-salad I enjoyed a little of the mac and cheese, which was creamy, cheesy amazingness. I was pleasantly surprised by how many veggie options were on the menu, as well as a vegan spin on the taco salad that I may just have to try next time I visit!

Thank you to The Diner for inviting us, and to the ladies for a hilarious evening. Good times and good food - what more can you ask for?

Disclaimer: As stated above, I was kindly invited to see the new location, and my meal and drinks were complimentary. And delicious. All opinions & thoughts my own, as ever.
