Happy end of January, all. Hasn't this month felt long? Even though I like January, this has felt like a long old month. Maybe it's the weather, maybe it's the dark, maybe it's the political maelstrom, I just know it's been a long month and I'm quite looking forward to a new page on the calendar.
As this year I've made my new year's resolutions monthly targets, I figured I'd check in each month with an update on how they've gone, as well as given a few vital stats for the month just past. There are lots of plans and changes afoot in 2017, and I think it'll be fun to keep a record.
So, January by the numbers...
Blog events attended: A rather lacklustre 2. I have, however, had some lovely get-togethers with bloggy friends.
Brunching up a storm with Emma was a highlight! |
Books read: A better 6 (The Dry, Relativity, Homegoing, How To Be A Grown Up, The Bear And The Nightingale, The One).
Such a beautiful book! |
Movies seen: 2, with a third this evening (La La Land & Sing!; tonight's pick is Jackie).
Places visited outside London: 1 - a lovely weekend in Newcastle.
Pre-6am starts: 20. Including a memorable one at 5am sharp due to tube strikes.
Theatre seen: not a jot - something I need to remedy in February! I did get tickets for Angels In America and Hamilton later in the year though, so that was a theatrical excitement!
Weight lost: 10 pounds. Making healthier choices has had a nice impact on the scale number. I'm aware that it's just a number, but it's always nice to secure a loss. More to come.
And how did I do with my resolutions?
My wellness habit to introduce for January was no playing on my phone or iPad before bed. This has been a real game changer and I have found it much easier to get to sleep swiftly and at a sensible hour. By having a digital sunset I'm feeling much better!
For fitness I wanted to aim for five walks a week of 30 minutes or more. I've been able to do this too and have loved popping a little activity into the diary. My habits for February are:
Wellness: 7 hours sleep a night, every night. I tend to be somewhere around six to six and a half hours, but I know seven is optimal for me. I need to get this habit in place!
Someone approves highly of this 'more sleep' plan! |
Fitness: 1 swim per week. Like the walks this is a simple habit to add and track, but I'm hopeful that if I add these habits in gradually I'll be building a lifestyle where exercise and looking after myself becomes habitual and easy, rather than something up and down.
How are you getting on with your new year's resolutions?
