I Love your Blog: Silverspoon London

One of the coolest things about blogging is the community you get to be part of, a community filled with inspiring writers, talented photographers, creative folk by the bucketful and so many hilarious, clever people. I started I Love Your Blog  a few years ago as a way to celebrate some of my favourite bloggers and it's always fun when schedules work out and an interview can happen.

This time I've interviewed the lovely Angie from Silverspoon London. Angie's blog is a treasure trove of beautiful pictures, travel and food inspiration, and fabulous writing. I love her tips on places to dine here in London, and her travel posts are full of great stories, amazing locations and drool-worthy hotels! As well as being a wonderful blogger, Angie herself is an utter delight - intelligent and charming with a dry wit. I'm so pleased she agreed to be part of the series.

How long have you been blogging?

I started my blog in January 2014 so it’s now been three years and I’ve loved every minute of it.

What do you blog about?  Do you have a specific goal with your blog (i.e. reviewing products, promoting a business, building a brand, transitioning into a writing / media / digital career), or is it more a record of your life?

I blog about lifestyle, food and travel with a focus on luxury. My main goal with my blog is that it makes me happy, I love writing and taking photos of my experiences and telling people about them. As the blog has grown it has also become my own business as well as a hobby but I really think it’s important that blogger doesn’t lose sight about why they started.

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

I’m sure many bloggers give the same answer but the best thing is meeting new friends. When I started my blog I didn’t quite realise the communities out there, often first formed on social media. Over the last three years I’ve made some fantastic and lasting friendships with people who I’ve met through blogging.

In the blogosphere you’ll always know your friends are there, whether it’s in your what’s app groups, Instagram, Twitter or meeting up in real life.

What is your least favourite thing about blogging?

The shady tactics that some bloggers use to gain their following. Buying followers and follow / unfollow just no…

Do you have any favourite posts on your blog – pieces you’re really proud of, which document something special, or which seemed to strike a chord with your readers?

One of my favourite posts was intended to be a review of a British Airways flight but it took a different turn when I lost my wedding ring on that aforementioned flight! I described the emotional journey of losing the ring down the side of my airline chair but the wonderful service of the flight attendants who helped me get it back in the end. It definitely struck a cord with my readers, many of whom commented with their own stories of lost rings!

Angie's holiday snaps are always amazing!

Whose blogs do you love?  I’m always looking for recommendations :)

Emma from Adventures of a London Kiwi for fun random stories, stuff to do in London and brunches.

Lauren from The Lifestyle Diaries for her fantastic food and travel recommendations.

Catherine from Lux Life Blog, one of the first blogs I ever read and a total inspiration for luxury travel!

I love your travel posts – where is your favourite place to visit? What destinations are on your radar for upcoming trips?

Last year I visited South Africa and I totally fell in love with the place for the scenery, food, people and wildlife. This year I visited Kenya and Tanzania (Zanzibar) and I had the most incredible time! There’s definitely a place in my heart for Africa and I’m hungry to see more! I’ve also got The Maldives on my radar for this year as it’s just been on my bucket list forever!

Warning: Angie's brilliant food photos will make you very, very hungry!

I think the pictures you have on your blog are great - do you have a favourite camera, or a favourite editing program?

Thank you so much! I wasn’t a natural photographer so it’s taken a lot of practice! I have a Nikon D750 and I edit my photos with light room.

You are one of my go-to bloggers for luxury spots in London. What are your favourite places for brunch, afternoon tea, cocktails or dinner in the city?

Oooh thank you!!

For brunch I love Dean Street Townhouse in Soho, it has a really cosy atmosphere and it’s luxurious but without the formality.

For afternoon tea I’d definitely say treat yourself to a visit to one of London’s luxury hotels. Claridge’s, The Ritz and The Dorchester are renowned for their incredible teas but I’d also suggest a visit to the Mandarin Oriental or The Landmark.

For cocktails my favourite bar is at The Connaught Hotel, it’s just so incredibly elegant! For a bar with a view check out Windows at the Hilton or the bar at SushiSamba in the Heron Tower.

For dinner, I love Asian food and would recommend Hakkasan for Chinese and Roka for Japanese. If you prefer European, I’d opt for Bob Bob Ricard as it has the famous ‘Push for Champagne button’

What tips do you have for bloggers growing and nurturing their blogs?

Write about what you’re passionate about and your love for your topic will come through in your words and photography. Don’t worry too much about technicalities like SEO etc that can always come later, just get started!

One way to nurture your blog is to build a community of other bloggers, there’s a great support system in blogging and building ties and friendships with other bloggers is not only fun but it’ll naturally help your blog to grow. Even if you’re shy, a community can be developed online so interact on social media and comment on each other’s blogs.
