The most awaited Hindu Festival is here and the atmosphere which most of you must be experiencing since today morning should be justifying the enthusiasm with which people celebrate this wonderful occasion. If you happen to visit Pune or Mumbai during this time, you will be able to witness so much of happiness with which this event is made enjoyable. The level of devotion towards Lord Ganesha amongst so many people is so likewise that the feeling of togetherness is bound to be felt.
According to me, Lord Ganesha is the epitome of positivity and strength. He is viewed by many as someone who guides them onto the path of righteousness. He is the one who takes away all the sorrows, worries and struggles they are facing in day to day lives and brings joy and happiness that will motivate them to start things all over again to lead the life in a beautiful and peaceful manner. More importantly, He is someone who possesses the ultimate knowledge about every tiny particle in this universe and that is exactly the reason for people to seek wisdom and stability in their thought process.
Let me tell you an interesting story that widely popular as the “Elephant Head”. There are 4 main stories around him but let me give you this.
This story is about the birth of Lord Ganesha. One fine Morning, Goddess Parvati was getting ready to take her bath. As she got all her body supplies and sandalwood paste and turmeric ready, she realized that her husband Lord Shiva was not at home as he had gone out for some assignment (Probably to destroy some evil as he is called the “Destroyer”). She understood that she cannot go for a bath unless there was someone to guard the house while she was inside. She was waiting and figuring out a way to manage this situation while unconsciously making a toy out of the sandalwood paste which she had in her hand. She accidentally breathed into it and because she is full of power, the small toy was brought to life and a baby boy was born (That’s how Lord Ganesha was Born). While she was amazed looking at this creation, she quickly realized that he can guard the house while she took her bath. She told him to do so and also instructed him not to allow anyone to enter unless she was done.
Now, this is where it got all dramatic. keep Reading…
As Lord Ganesha was guarding the house, Lord Shiva entered and was shocked to see a child. He asked him “Who are you ?” and became astonished at learning the fact that this small child was Parvati’s Son. Lord Shiva tried to just ignore this fact and move in but was not allowed to enter even though he tried to tell Lord Ganesha that it was his house. Lord Shiva got furious after a lot of confrontation that went back and forth and finally, he ordered his followers to fight with Ganesha. When we refer to Lord Shiva’s followers, it means the entire Earth.
So, the entire Earth came to fight with this kid. Lord Ganesha, being the most powerful God amongst all, is able to strike out all of them easily. The entire earth got shattered and Lord Shiva was furious seeing all this and this was when the 7 rishis entered the scene. They sat and tried to explain this kid but no use and Lord Ganesha was so adamant that he ignored them all. Lord Indra then made his way from heaven looking at this state of Earth and brought his entire army to fight against the kid but as usual, Lord Ganesha was successful is thrashing them to. The Earth and Heaven, both got shattered. Lord Shiva then decided to face this child one on one and at some weak moment, managed to chop off his head. That’s when Parvati appeared out of nowhere and freaked out seeing her baby’s head out of place. Lord Shiva explained everything that happened to her and listening to all of that, Paravati got all furious. She asked him to fix this somehow. Lord Shiva managed to kill an elephant and brought his head as a replacement. That’s how Lord Ganesha was reborn.
( In this story, I just have one simple question … What took Goddess Paravati so long to enter the scene especially when the earth was shattered. I mean, didn’t she get any indication. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed it.)
Wish you all a very Happy Ganesh Chaturthi. Enjoy these 10 days roaming eating a lot of modaks and other delicious sweets. Feel the positive vibes all around you and make the most of it.
