There has been a lot of speculation about whether the next Stephen King book would be a new chapter in the Bill Hodges series, or Stephen King would return to the horror genre.
The title of the latest Stephen King novel, The Outsider, did not really give anything away.
In fact, the author has remained very guarded about the plot of his new book, but we do now know that The Outsider will be released on June 5th, 2018 and the publisher has now released a very brief synopsis of the story.
You can pre-order Stephen King’s The Outsider, save yourself a few bucks on the list price, and guarantee that you get one of the very first copies of the novel below.
So, is The Outsider a horror novel or a crime novel?
Well, it seems like it might be a bit of both.
The story begins with the discovery of the violated body of an eleven year old boy. All the evidence suggests that the murderer is Terry Maitland, a popular member of the Flint city community. Maitland seems to be just a nice family guy. He is an English teacher, a Little League coach and the father of two girls.
The detective on the case, Ralph Anderson, orders the quick arrest of Maitland, even though the English teacher has an alibi. Pretty soon, DNA evidence is added to the witness statements and the fingerprint evidence in what appears to be a watertight case.
As the investigation continues, horrifying facts begin to surface and, as the publisher’s synopsis says “King’s propulsive story kicks into high gear”.
Whether Terry Maitland is a nice guy who has been framed, was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, or is not such a nice guy after all, we won’t know until we read the book. However, the publisher promises us that the answers will shock is as only Stephen King can.
We look forward to it!
