Dogs, Death, and Dancing

Three new What Happened When Frank Died stories are now available for free on Talk Vomit.

Three new What Happened When Frank Died stories. Three new gorgeous pieces of art by Nikita.

Hi everyone,

This week I’m sending out an update on my What Happened When Frank Died series in Talk Vomit. If you want to just jump right to the stories, here are the links:

What Happened When Frank Stopped Dancing – This is my personal hell.

Because Frank Could Not Stop For Death She Kindly Stopped For Him –This story brings a character that pops up in a lot of my other work into the Frank universe. She’s kind of an asshole.

All Dogs (And Frank) Go to Heaven – Frank is accidentally sent to dog heaven. Hey, shit happens.

If you’d like to learn more about what inspired them, read on!

Because Frank Could Not Stop For Death She Kindly Stopped For Him

The title of this piece is inspired by the Emily Dickinson poem, but the content is not. This is the first interaction Frank has with Death. For anyone who read our Flash-365 blog, you’ll recognize her character. Out of any character I’ve created, she sticks in my mind the most and behaves as she wants to without much direction from me—often in direct opposition to my directions. It’s really annoying actually.

What Happened When Frank Stopped Dancing

This is the latest Frank story and was inspired by a part-time job I had at a kindergarten. Every morning, first thing, I had to take the kids into the. play-room and perform Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. That song haunted my fucking dreams for months. One day, after work, Nikita and I were talking about it and came to the horrifying realization that if hell truly exists, this is it. No question. Stick hot irons up my ass if you want, but don’t make me perform that damn song even one more time.

All Dogs (And Frank) Go to Heaven

This story was inspired by—well, nothing really. The title comes from the movie but the story and setting came from brainstorming about what possible heavens there might be. When my brain got to dog heaven, I got an image in my mind of an endless field of hands all constantly scratching with different dogs rolling around on top of it. Many other thoughts popped up: poop turns instantly to slim jims and everyone gets their testicles back.

I hope you enjoy these stories. If you’d like to peruse the whole series so far, you can find them here.

Best,

Ben & Nikita
