Satire – Tomcat Tompkins – 113

Tompkins turned right at the next junction and put his foot down until the Jaguar was going at over 100mph.

“Daisy will know them, but I am not sure they’ll harm her. They might harm me, but not her. I doubt our opponents would stoop so low as to hurt her.”

“It sounds as though it’s more important to find out who our opponents are then,” said Filly smiling at how nonchalant her husband sounded about being harmed by people he knew. He probably thought it would be like a friendly game of rugby from his school days, but the demises of Spinky and Dapper Dan should show him otherwise.

“Front or back then?” asked Tompkins.

“How much time do we have to decide?” asked Filly.

“At this speed, about 5 minutes. There’s a junction about 8 miles along, where I could turn left and then there’s a hidden gate after two miles, in the centre of the village near the duck pond, which Daisy and I used to sneak up on the residence last time we were here.”

After two minutes of thinking, Filly spoke.

“Well, Tomcat, I think we should go in the back way, perhaps surprise them, and see if we can’t find Daisy before they’ve literally woken up to what’s happening. We can get her out of the place and then deal with the others.”

“Yes, sounds like a plan, Filly, it’s 50-50 for me, so we’ll do as you suggest. They’ll have lookouts posted, both back and front, although whether they’ll be awake is another matter, of course. I will try and circumvent them by going through the trees and head up the hill.”

“Where will you park the car?” asked Filly, “won’t that be a giveaway to anyone looking out for us?”
