A couple of things you could do with your summer

A Couple Of Things You Could Do With Your Summer

Hello there and welcome to my blog. I hope you are reading this in your happy place, and if not just take it to God, he’ll take the stress away. So, today’s post is one that was of high demand and it’s for those wondering “What on earth, do I do with this Summer holiday?”. If going to mall and the movies aren’t cutting it for you and you’re looking for more to do with this long holiday, you’re in the right place. Here a couple of my suggestions on some productive things to do with this holiday:

Reflect and assess yourself

I know it sounds funny, like “How can you reflect for three months straight? When you’re not a mirror (I’m sorry for that, I couldn’t help it)”. But, No, that’s not what I’m saying, I’m saying make reflection your starting point. And what does this reflection entail? Search within yourself, think about yourself, voids you may have, think about past occurrences and assess them. The reason why this is so important is that once you’ve figured out your deficits and desires, you have direction on what to spend your time with. So, figure out your deficits and your desires first.

Plan your life

Yes, it sounds very serious, but it’s vital. The thing about life is that school comes at you so fast, and you barely have time to even think. Before you know it, you’re wearing a gown, smiling for a picture at your convocation without a clue on what’s next. Summer gives you time to figure out where your life is heading, time to plan it and even redirect it if you’re heading the wrong way.

Get a job

Be it for money or experience, getting a job is important for every university student. It really prepares you for life ahead, I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been a fan of learning on the job. Interning gives you a chance to make extra money, I feel this needs no explanation. Another thing is it gives you classes on life. We spend so much time in school, a place I consider virtual reality, internships really help give you an outlook on life.

Also, they help you to have practical understanding of things taught in class. If you go to a university like mine, you probably spend more time looking at a screen than doing things with your hands. So, we really need jobs for practical experience.

You could get jobs through platforms like Stutern and LinkedIn, they’re really helpful. You could also get a job by sending messages to brands you’d like to work with, it sounds like its impossible, but they really like the initiative of doing so, try it.

Start a business

Summer gives you the chance to really examine voids in your environment and device means to fill it up in exchange for money. I personally have tried this out and it works perfectly. Just take time to think about school or home, and ask yourself “What do people need?”, “How can I provide that?”. Once you’ve answered those questions, chase them on all fours. Trust me when I say, value exchanges for money any time. So, you can spend your summer thinking of how to add value.

Art

We all have emotions and thoughts, and what better way to express them than Art? Art encompasses poetry, dance, painting, anything that involves expressing emotions. Once you start with any art of your choice, make it a conscious effort to grow in it, measure your progress, this alone is a lifelong process, that will cut across tens of summers, You’re welcome.

Engage in personal development

This is a process tied to reflection and assessment. Once you have figured out your deficits, you develop yourself. Summer gives you the chance to focus on the only person that matters and that’s you. If you have focus issues, read books on focus and watch videos on them. Personal Development, involves measuring your progress until you reach a point where a weakness becomes a strength. The truth is no one is perfect, so personal development is something we all need to try.

Try Music

I don’t know if you love Music as much as I do, but I believe music can fix anything. Listening to music is good but have you tried making music, its just…. (no words). So this summer, head to a musical instrument store, get your favorite instrument, buy a couple of books, get some videos from YouTube and make music. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Broaden yourself

This involves growing whatever, whichever way possible. Learn to cook, to knit, anything available, just do whatever you can to keep expanding. Expanding also involves working on the things you can do already, if you could sing make sure you sing better this summer. If you always wondered how people who can dance perform such “sorcery”, try dancing yourself, try something new and broaden yourself.

It also entails learning new things. People call it pride, I say its just me, but I never like being in an environment where I don’t have a clue what’s going on? Like why? This summer learn new things, who says a psychologist can’t know about solar energy and who says an engineer can’t know about the dynamics of money? Broaden yourself!

Update yourself your industry

This is for those who actually plan on using their university degree. It’s not news that most of the things we are taught in school are old, we all know that. Asides from that, life is ever changing, we wake up every new day to new problems, new ways of doing things, change is constant. So, if you plan to use that degree of yours and stand out, I advise you use this summer to know what’s happening out there in your industry. Get accustomed to them, try to start proffering solutions to problems, start now so you can stand out (yeah, I know, that was a nice line).

Grow in God

This has to be the most important thing you could do this summer. Trying things God didn’t have planned for you, is just a waste of time. This summer you need to get closer to God, see him more as a friend rather than the big guy in the sky (he still deserves all the glory). He has the blueprint for your life, so get closer with him so he could reveal it to you. He also has happiness, peace, blessings all in store for you, it’s a win-win-win-win till eternity situation. Spend time with God this summer, you need it.

So that’s a wrap, I hope you now have direction on what to with your summer. I want to read your comments, what you have to say and the things you tried out, so let me know in the comments section. I hope you have a productive summer and thanks for stopping by.

Have a wonderful day.
