Crier’s War

I can’t believe I almost skipped out on the October Owlcrate which had this Book in it. Not being a fan of sci-fi I thought I may skip that month but eventually decided not to and to give it a try and in so glad I did. Crier’s War was a pretty fantastic read. I hadn’t read the other book that came with this crate yet but I’m more optimistic about it now that this one turned out good.

Crier’s War is about a society where the artificial intelligent life has taken over and now rules over humans. I read a book with a similar theme and it really didn’t resonate with me. But in Crier’s War the AI feel nearly human and the story itself wasn’t at all futuristic. In fact it had a medieval and magic feel to it. So this was the right type of sci-fi for me.

After the War of Kinds ravaged the kingdom of Rabu, the Automae, designed to be the playthings of royals, have now taken over rule of the land.

Now Ayla, a human servant rising in the ranks at the House of the Sovereign, dreams of avenging her family’s death…by killing the sovereign’s daughter, Lady Crier.

Crier was Made to be beautiful, flawless in every way and to carry on her father’s legacy. But that was before her betrothal to the sinister Scyre Kinok, before a secret discovered and before she met Ayla.

There is great human unrest around the land and as it draws closer to Crier and Ayla they realize war is around the corner. With a ruthless foreign queen and an evil rule on the rise the love these two feel for one another will have to wait.

Crier’s War is like a LGBTQ sci-fi Romeo and Juliet where the main characters don’t kill themselves, at least yet. I believe the series is set to be a trilogy. This book left of with quite a cliffhanger and who knows when book two will find its way to the universe.

This book is great for sci-fi and fantasy louvers alike. I will give Crier’s War an enthusiastic 4 out of 5 stars. Read on and prosper my dear booklings.
