Librarian Carter Matheson is on the trip of a lifetime to Scotland to meet his favorite mystery author in Murder Take the High Road.Unfortunately, his ex-boyfriend Trevor and his new man are on the trip as well because Carter purchased the trip for Trevor as a gift two years ago. As if that’s not bad enough, Carter ends up with a last minute roommate, one of the older women on the tour dies and someone else leaves mysteriously early. While his new roommate, John Knight, is hot and interesting, ex Trevor continues to accuse Carter of trying to ruin the trip for him and wanting him back. As things heat up with John, an even bigger disaster happens. It’s like Carter is in his own personal mystery and he could be the next victim.

I enjoyed this story, but I have some issues with it. First, Carter wonders how John was able to get onto the tour at the last minute when they only do two a year and he had to book two years ahead of time. But he never wonders that about Trevor’s new man, who he’s been with for only ten months. How did he get on the tour? There were other minor inconstancies, but I can’t remember what they are off the top of my head. Even so, I enjoyed Carter’s character and John’s as well. Using his librarian skills, Carter figures out everything that’s gone on and who the killer is. It’s pretty impressive and that, children, is why you should know how to do research!
