Review of Gone Haunting in Deadwood by Ann Charles

Violet Parker still doesn’t know what all of her Executioner abilities are when she’s called in to help Detective Cooper find his informant in Slagton in the ninth Deadwood Humorous Mystery story, Gone Haunting in Deadwood.Instead of the informant, they find a strange kind of mutant griffins who want to kill them, Violet in particular. When one of Violet’s cuckoo clocks starts chiming, it’s time to go into battle to win Slagton from those who want to harm humanity. With her boyfriend Doc, Cooper, Harvey and Cornelius, Violet sets out to show the hunters who’s boss and that she deserves her place as Executioner.

Poor Violet has a lot of people who don’t trust her abilities as Executioner. She might even be one of them. But she has enough people who do believe in her that she can manage to get the job done. After all, she has two kids to protect and I think they know more than they’re letting on. At least as far as her son is concerned. We also have another unfinished storyline involving zombie like people who may or may not be reproducing. She’ll have to deal with them, and the liderc she made a deal to catch, eventually. If you’re paying attention, we may even know where it’s hiding. Can’t wait to see how that works out for her.
