When you think about a Hero, the person you choose varies from individual to individual, but they tend to share a common theme. While he or she has different names, different places of origin, and different adversities (and adversaries), they all had a call to action, responded to it, and returned victorious. Heroes are seen throughout our culture, from movies to television to video games and novels. Everyone loves a hero — so when we talk about a Transformational Hero in relation to IT, what exactly are we talking about?
For too long, IT has been seen as a cost instead of a value center. One of the things that we hear the most is that IT is blamed when things go wrong, and not recognized for the things that it does right. It’s a backwards way of thinking that, given the Increasing Digitalization of the enterprise, will only hurt businesses.
But there’s a change happening in the enterprise, and IT is emerging as a leader. With the increasing digitalization of businesses, you can do much more than put out a fire or remind you that it’s time to update your operating system. With all the right tools at their disposal, you can be a proactive thought leader instead of bogged down in reactive workflows — if you accept the call to action to be a Transformational hero.
