Figured out what you’re doing for Valentine’s Day yet? If not, don’t worry. The Minneapolis St. Paul area has plenty of options for lovers seeking an especially romantic day. We’ve put together a list of Valentine’s Day activities that will help ensure you have a lovely day with your significant other.
To start your day on an active note (and to ensure you’re hungry for dinner) try visiting Minnehaha Park’s Minnehaha Falls. Minnehaha Falls is like having a mini Niagara Falls in your own back yard and it’s perfect for a date even in the winter when the falls become jagged shards of ice. Once you’ve seen the waterfall, stroll around the various trails. Be sure not to miss the Minnehaha Falls Pergola Garden and the Hiawatha Statue!
Dinner and Drinks
If you’re looking for a first class dinner then head to the Downtown West area next to the State Theatre and dine at the Capital Grille. The Capital Grille offers surf and turf as well as a wine bar, all of which is fantastically well prepared. The ambiance is not be overlooked either; a white tablecloth setting with tasteful decorations that will add another layer of excitement to your special day.
Assuming you eat at the Capital Grille, and also assuming you decide to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Saturday the 13th instead of Sunday, it makes perfect sense to end your night busting a gut at the Valentine’s Day Laugh-a-Thon. The event features the hilarious Lavell Crawford (of Breaking Bad fame) as well as a host of other comedians including Henry Welch, Kiana Dancie, Benj Brown, Sheryl Underwood, Lil Duval, and Just Nesh.
Another option would be to check out Gypsy at the legendary Pantages Theater (also only a one minute walk from the Capital Grille). Directed by Peter Rothstein, Gypsy has been critically acclaimed as the greatest American musical ever made. It tells the story of an ambitious stage mother who seeks to attain a successful career in show business for her two daughters. As of this post, the Saturday session is almost sold out, but Sunday is still relatively open.
Those are our picks for the most romantic places to spend Valentine’s Day in the Twin Cities. What are your favorite Valentine’s Day spots? Leave a comment below and let us know your plans for the big day or give advice to others.
