Blending promotions with special holidays can be a tricky affair. Luckily, the MarketingProfs help guide us through the process with great results for the most effective Mother’s Day Email Subject Lines. As you know, Mother’s Day is this Sunday. Time’s ticking for gift buyers, but even more so for marketers trying to grab those last minute buyer’s’ attentions. Luckily for marketers, most shoppers are procrastinators and wait until the last minute, so it’s not too late to change up your email marketing strategy for this Mother’s Day if you want to incorporate some of this data into your current campaigns. MarketingProfs reports that according to Yesmail and Persado, email subject lines that elicit emotion have a 21.5% higher open rate. More than 12,000 different email subject lines and 118,000 emails have been tested over the last two years leading up to Mother’s Day 2014 and 2015 to gain the valuable insights. Curiosity and encouragement were the emotions that elicited the highest open rates. An example Mother’s Day Subject Line for encouragement is “Give mom the gift she really wants!”. An example Mother’s Day Subject Line for curiosity is “Mother’s day is the Sunday – shall we save you a table?” Even more effective are subject lines with Mother’s Day references in them. These resulted in an open rate of 11.2%. The most effective subject lines were those with Mother’s Day references at the beginning of the subject line. Urgency or safety were less effective topics for subject lines for Mother’s Day. For example, “Guaranteed Mother’s Day Delivery” was not an effective subject line when compared to other, more emotional titles.
Takeaways for Your Company
It’s important to keep this research in mind for other holidays as well. You might consider changing up your strategy on email subject lines for your segments, and also into different timeframes. Early shoppers, last minute shoppers, and same day shoppers are all very different audiences. As always, A/B and variable testing to your own audience and customer set is the best way to know what is best for your company and your customers.
