Important Winter Maintenance Tips for Your Vehicle

Despite the warm and rainy El Niño Weather, there still is some Winter chill heading in from January through March. It's always a good idea to prepare your Vehicle before the weather gets too intense. Here are a few ways that you can make sure you're ready for the rain, snow, slush, and ice.

Get a Full Tune Up and Scheduled Maintenance

There are countless issues with a vehicle that a driver might not think to deal with throughout the year -- for instance, a hot wire that is slowly draining the Battery. While these issues may be inconvenient during warmer weather, they can be hazardous during the winter; the last thing you want is to end up stuck on the side of the road during a thunderstorm or snowstorm. Rather than risk it, bring your vehicle in for maintenance and repairs. It's a good time to get filters and liquids changed and topped off as well.

Flush and Refill Your Cooling System While Testing Your Heater

Your Cooling System must regularly be flushed and refilled to stay in operation; the winter is a good time to perform this maintenance, in addition to making sure that the heating system is working as it should. Pay particular attention to the defroster; if your defroster isn't working correctly it could present a significant driving hazard.

Add De-Icer to Your Fuel Line

De-icer is exceptionally important if your vehicle will be out in the cold -- and you can never know when the temperature may plummet overnight. De-icer will prevent your fuel line from freezing, which can cause serious damage.

Get Your Battery Checked

Batteries can become weak, but still function -- and then they can fail when they are put under additional strain, leaving you potentially stranded. In addition to getting your Battery Checked, you may also want to get a small battery jumper that you can store in your trunk. This way you won't need to use another vehicle to jump your car if you do get stuck somewhere.

Replace Your Car Tires

If you've been thinking about replacing your Tires soon, now is the time. Tires with worn treads will be more prone to slip and slide on icy or wet roads. If you aren't certain whether your tires need to be replaced, you can consult with a service center.

In general, it's a good idea to get a full vehicle check up and tune up before any extreme weather hits. Bring your vehicle down to AA Auto Tech and we can make sure that it's fully winter weather ready. Contact us today to find out more about our services.
