More Are Joining Microsoft And Facebook's ONNX Open AI Ecosystem

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is still growing, but has helped many parts of technology. From face recognition, voice recognition to self-driving cars and software, there are still more to come.

Making computers smarter with the ability to think and improvise, AI is also bridging the gap between languages by bringing the world closer together.

But still, the development of AI has issues. One of which was a major road block Facebook and Microsoft have enountered.

The two giant companies had problems in switching from traditional frameworks to machine-learning frameworks, such as PyTorch and Caffe2.

Their solution was to use an open-source AI ecosystem called Onnx (Open Neural Network Exchange). First announced by the two on September 2017, it allows developers to switch between AI engines at any stages of development.

According to the two, ONNX that is an open ecosystem for interchangeable AI models would make machine learning "more accessible and valuable for everyone."

To help, Facebook and Microsoft are recruiting other companies.

The additions to ONNX include IBM, Huawei, Intel, AMD, Arm, and Qualcomm. These are the companies that work within the fields of AI for at least various of degrees. So they have the knowledge and experience in the field.

According to Facebook:

"In Facebook's AI teams (FAIR and AML), we are continuously trying to push the frontier of AI and develop better algorithms for learning. When we have a breakthrough, we'd like to make the better technologies available to people as soon as possible in our applications. With ONNX, we are focused on bringing the worlds of AI research and products closer together so that we can innovate and deploy faster."

What Facebook highlighted here is ONNS could accelerate the development of AI in overall. From delivering things like self-driving and internet-connected cars to the next level.

Microsoft also announced that developers would have more tools to use with the repository, including its Cognitive Toolkit and Project Brainwave platforms.

The partnership between Facebook and Microsoft, with others in ONNX is not part of the two's machine initiative 'Partnership on AI' where the two partner with Apple, Amazon, Google, and IBM. Partnership on AI is all about increasing public awareness, and boosting research.
