We, as your appointed Shipping Agent at Port-Louis Mauritius, have received the official communiqué yesterday, 29th of May 2012, from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure explaining that captured pirates or any person under suspicion to have assisted in an act of piracy or Maritime violence can now be brought to justice in Mauritius by the Master of the concerned Maritime Vessel. This applies not only to ships registered under Mauritian flag but also to vessels operating under other flag states as well. The promulgation of this new act had been awaited for some time now as being one of the offshoots of Mauritius being a signatory of the Djibouti convention for the fight against Maritime Piracy. The act will be put into force as from the 1st of June 2012. You are hence encouraged to go through the below linked attachment (as certain rules applies) and brief your clients and team leaders accordingly. This paper will certainly be a good source of reference to further update your operational SOPs.
