Mason Jars are extremely versatile and can be used for a number of purposes around the home and even in your office. They are timeless in terms of style and they will take on the theme you choose depending on what you place inside them. If you have any old Mason Jars hiding in the back of a cupboard, now is the time to take them out, give them a clean, and put them to good use!
Firstly, mason jars make excellent vases. They are large enough to hold a reasonable size bouquet and yet compact so they won’t get in your way. They are sturdy so you can be sure that they won’t simply fall over and you can easily keep an eye on the water level. If you want a more impressive display, you can create a cluster of mason jars filled with various flowers and use them to create a tablescape. Add some extra accessories around the base of the arrangements for that added style, texture and colour. For example, if you want to make an autumn display, you can use seasonal flowers in the mason jars and add things like dried leaves, mini pumpkins, and nuts or acorns around the bases of the jars. Use different size jars for some height variation.
Another great idea is to use mason jars to hold your succulents. They are great for potted plants but, given their size and shape, it is best to use them for slower growing plants like cacti and succulents. Remember, these kinds of plants thrive with minimal water and, since your mason jars do not offer any drainage, you should not water too frequently and you should not use too much water at once. Overwatering can result in root rot and the plant will die. Use a mixture of soil and small stones to keep the soil loose. This will encourage root growth and rapid water drainage. You can also keep an eye on the moisture level of the soil by checking the jar.
Not only do these mason jars look lovely in your home, but you can also send flowers in mason jars as gifts. Add vase fillers if you like since these jars are transparent after all! If, for whatever reason, you don’t like the look of the mason jar itself or if it is damaged, you can cover the jar with decoupage, sticks, or anything you like to suit the seasonal theme.
