Spectrra Prints installs Heidelberg XL 75;targets Tirupur’s garment industry

The company which started operations in 2012, is part of JGA Offset Printing. The new Press is aimed to advance the company’s plans to keep up with demands in the carton printing and packaging segment from the garment industry-town of Tirupur (52kms from Coimbatore). The company also prints garment tags, labels, wraps etc.

“This investment is to meet the huge demand from the packaging and carton printing market we have been receiving. We believe the XL 75 will help us capitalise on the demand and make deeper inroads in the segment,” said Senthil Kumar, the managing partner of Spectrra Prints. Senthil Kumar is is a computer science engineer by education, who started his career in garment export and has been a print entrepreneur for more than a decade.

The XL 75 configuration at Spectrra includes the Prinect Press Centre, Intellistart 2 and wall screen option.

“The investment strengthens our resolve and commitment to serve a diverse client base across various verticals, as we explore to foray into overseas markets,” added Kumar.

The fully-automated Speedmaster XL 75, according to Heidelberg, is said to “minimise operational footsteps and cut makeready set-up times.” The press has top speeds of 15,000 sheets per hour and is said to handle any substrate from lightweight paper to board, ranging from 0.0012 to 0.031 inches.

“The XL-75’s makeready can be as less as two minutes, with fully-automatic plate changes and the availability of Intellistart 2, which were some of the key reasons for us to choose this press,” said Senthil.

The company’s print production firepower includes a Heidelberg SM 52, a two-colour Heidelberg Sormz and a single-colour press from Fuji. The post-press floor features an automated die-cutter, a window patching machine, a laminator, a pasting machine and a folder-gluer. This equipment line-up is backed by an in-house CTP platesetter from Kodak.

Speaking about the unique features of the press, Saseendran Baskaran, general manager, press solution, Heidelberg India, said, “The innovative Roller Check Assistant of the XL 75 reduces reviews and adjustment of rollers by 30% as compared to manual adjustment. The wash-up devices for blanket and impression cylinders reduce the consumption of washing fluid and wash-up cloth. The blanket and the impression cylinder are washed simultaneously in all units, thereby reducing wash-up times, as well. The wash-up device of the inking unit also works with reduced amount of water and washing fluid.”

“In a few years, we expect to expand our infrastructure to cater to other segments of the packaging industry, in addition to deepening our penetration into global markets,” concluded Senthil as he spelled out the growth plan for his company which currently employs nearly 50 people.
