First Aid Supplies Every Pool Needs

Pool Safety is essential for a great summer season. There are a few key items that should always be included in your first-aid kit for swimming Pool safety. For pools open to the public, there are mandatory safety items that must be in a readily accessible location. These items are highly recommended but not required for home pools. A home first-aid kit should be adequate enough for a family pool, enabling you to treat small wounds and minor cuts and bruises.

These items include but are not limited to:

  • Antibacterial soap.
  • Security camera. Some systems even have a remote feature where you can view footage from a mobile device.
  • Disposable latex gloves.
  • Be sure to get multiple sizes.
  • Gauze pads, 2 x 2 inch and 3 x 3
  • Adhesive tape.

Though accidents may happen, being prepared will minimize the severity of, and possibly prevent pool accidents. Making sure everyone who will be around the pool has adequate swimming skills is also important.

Other items that do not necessarily go in a first-aid kit but are vital for pool safety are water rescue items. These include but are not limited to:

  • Life jackets.
  • Pool ring.
  • Pool rope.
  • Phone access to easily dial 9-1-1.
  • Fire extinguisher.

Other safety options are secure gates and alarms to help prevent unauthorized pool use. There are different types of alarms, such as a water alarm that sounds when someone enters the pool or a motion alarm that goes off when the gate is opened without permission.

The key to pool safety and first aid is education and preparation. Make sure to check your first-aid kit regularly, so you do not run out of anything and know how to use all the equipment. Mark expiration dates and restocks accordingly. Educate your family on first-aid measures and safety protocol. Another great option is to get CPR/AED certified through the Red Cross. Follow these steps to help ensure a safe and fun pool experience for everyone.
