How To Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Virtually

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, and if your company usually does something fun to celebrate the day, you may be feeling a bit deflated. After all, with so many of your employees still working remotely, it might seem impossible to have any sort of celebration.

Not so fast though. With a bit of applied creativity, you can still turn the holiday into a special, memorable Occasion for your hard-working employees, even if most of them are working from home. Here are a few ideas to get your mind turning on the subject:

Encourage Everyone to Wear Green
This one’s easy. Just let everyone know that you’re planning something special for the day and when your team gets together on Skype, or Zoom, or whatever Virtual Meeting software you use, the hope is that most everyone will appear wearing green to mark the occasion and help make the virtual meeting more festive.

Bake Shamrock Cookies!
This one admittedly takes a bit of time and talent on your part, but it adds a nice touch to the day. In advance of the St. Patty’s day celebration, bake enough green-frosted shamrock cookies and send them to your employees with instructions not to open the surprise box until the day of. Then, when everyone is together, everybody opens their boxes and gets to enjoy some delicious cookies as a treat while catching up in the virtual chat room.
If you want to take this idea to the next level, send everyone a recipe for a delicious peppermint shamrock milkshake. Those who decide to make one will have a little something extra to enjoy with their cookies.

Watch A Parade Together (Virtually)
Time permitting, you can check out some fantastic St. Patty’s Day parade livestreams and enjoy the sights and pageantry together as a team.

Don’t Forget Music
Music always adds something to any festive occasion, and there are some fantastic collections of Irish Music on YouTube, Spotify, and other music-oriented sites on the web. Pick your favorite, find a pre-generated playlist, or make your own, and add a bit of musical flair to the festivities. Between the music and food, it’s starting to look a whole lot like a party!

Add Trivia
If you’re the sort who enjoys games and you can make time to create a short one, consider adding an “Irish Trivia Game” to the day, with the person who knows the most about the Irish winning a modest prize for their display of expertise.

The prize doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. It can literally be a gift card to a chain restaurant that’s still open, or to one of the growing number of companies like “Hello Fresh” that deliver meals to your door. These days, that would be a welcome gift indeed, and greatly appreciated.

The bottom line is, there’s a surprising amount you can do to make the day memorable. No, it’s not quite the same as an actual, in person celebration, but until that’s a possibility again, it’s not a bad substitute, either.
