Delightfully dazed: the Spring/Summer 2014 daisy trend

Is it just us, or has the unassuming little daisy taken on a whole new life this season? We seem to be spotting the humble wildflower all over the place, as designers and fashionistas transform daisy prints of all sizes and colors into a full blown trend, overshadowing the more typical spring and summer florals.

Design houses like Prada, Stella McCartney, and Mulberry have practically built their Spring/Summer 2014 collections around the daisy, with both labels opting mostly for prints of simple white and yellow daisies on a black background.

That winning combination smacks of a mod 60s vibe, and celebrities like Katy Perry and miranda Kerr have been quick to rock that retro look themselves in black, white and yellow daisy print dresses that are fresh and sweet for spring.

Feminine but informal, daisies are a casual, youthful way to wear florals, just perfect for this season's sundresses, like the new Lazy Daisies Dress from Afends. Based out of Byron Bay Australia, the label's just one of the few that have brought the daisy print trend to Buzz Jean's doorstep in the past couple of weeks.

But while the majority of brands are doing daisies with the classic white on black contrast, this cute floral looks sweet as pie in lighter spring tones too, with creams, whites and other pale shades keeping things nice and bright. This palette works especially well with extra girly styles that also include sheer materials or lace, like Sugarhill Boutique's Daisy Top, with its lace panelled back.

Finally, the daisy craze isn't just about prints, as this motif takes on a different charm when it's embroidered. A busy pattern of navy daisies on white is a huge focus of British design house Mulberry's latest collection.

For a similar look that's in the off-runway price range, Sugarhill Boutique's Meadows Sweater also showcases delicate embroidered daisies.

Whether in classic or fresh colors, printed or embroidered, the daisy trend has more or less exploded in just the past couple of weeks, with magazines and bloggers asking if it may just replace all other florals this season, or whether it's 2014's new polka dot.

So what to make of this delightfully dazed motif? We love it... we love it not... no, just kidding, we definitely love it!
