The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) recently announced the dates of its 17th annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference (AAPC), which will take place Sept. 16-17, 2022. Registration for the event is free and open to anyone.

As in 2021, this year’s conference will be held virtually, giving people from all around the world the opportunity to join the live event. Simmons Hanly Conroy is honored to be a platinum sponsor of the event.
Each year, the Conference brings together the global mesothelioma and asbestos-disease prevention communities, which includes advocates, journalists, academics, doctors, medical professionals, public health experts and many others.
In addition to spreading knowledge and building awareness, the goal of AAPC is to also promote legislative action among governments.
What to Expect From This Year’s Conference
For its 2022 conference, ADAO has an exciting schedule full of excellent speakers and panelists, guests and honorees.

Friday, Sept. 16, 2022
On the opening day of this year’s conference, the ADAO will host its “Asbestos: Art, Advocacy, and Action Festival” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST.
Starting at 2:15 p.m. EST, a candle-lighting ceremony will be held to honor the lives of those impacted by mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.
The Friday program features a keynote speech by David Boraks, a veteran NPR journalist who has covered the topic of asbestos extensively in the North Carolina area and elsewhere in the United States.
Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022
The second and final day of the conference will include four academic panel discussions covering the following topics:
- Session I: Progress and Challenges from the Frontline
- Session II: Medical Advancements: Diagnosing and Treating Mesothelioma and Other Asbestos-Related Diseases
- Session III: Prevention: Legacy Asbestos: What Is It? Where Is It? What Do I Do?
- Session IV: Global Ban Asbestos Action
Later that afternoon, ADAO will conclude the conference with its awards and recognition ceremony, which includes seven different awards.
