5 Essential Items For Baby Led Feeding

Thinking of baby led feeding? Aileen Cox Blundell of babyledfeeding.com gives her advice.

Once your Baby reaches the six-month mark, they are ready for solid foods. If you would like to try Baby Led Feeding, you will need a few essential items to keep you, baby, and your kitchen nice and clean! So what do you really need to buy? You could spend a fortune on fancy spoons and bowls but really you only need a few things to get started.

1. A Good High Chair

You can’t beat a good high chair. Having the piece of mind knowing your baby is on a reliable and sturdy chair while you’re bustling around the kitchen helps relieve anxiousness.

2. A Long Sleeve Wipeable Bib

For those extra messy eaters. A long sleeve bib covers more surface area on your baby so you have less tidying up to do after each meal. Make sure it’s wipeable so you cut even more time off of the cleanup process!

3. A Wipeable Table Cloth

Yet another essential for those messy eaters, a Wipeable Table Cloth works wonders! After your baby eats on a normal table cloth there is bound to be a mess and food everywhere. By using a wipeable table cloth you save time and energy on cleaning up after you little one. Just rinse or wipe off and you’re ready for the next meal!

4. A Good Sippy Cup

Sippy cups are so lovely and versatile. The key is to get a good quality one that will prevent any leaks. Sippy cups can be used for water or milk and even soups! It may be hard for some babies to drink soup out of the normal sippy cup hole, instead, I’d recommend getting a sippy cup with a straw. The straw will make it much easier for your baby.

5. Mini Muffin Tin

Last but not least – the mini muffin tin. This has been an essential part of my kitchen since my little baby was six months old and now even though he is two, I still use it every single week. Mini muffins are the ideal size for little hands and can be packed full of amazing goodness from iron-rich kale or spinach to berries and fruit. I also use it for portioning the leftovers of meals. For example, a heaped tablespoon of sauce usually fills each compartment, then just cover with cling film and freeze. Once fully solid use a warm cloth at the back and the sauce portions just pop out. Then place into a freezer bag, label and store in the freezer for those busy, busy days you just want something quick. A portion of veggie-loaded pasta sauce will defrost in the microwave in less than 4 mins! I also cook little portions of pasta and then freeze too for super handy dinners.
