Otis Elevator Co. has been awarded the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Gold rating for its Bengaluru factory.
The factory has been serving India’s people-moving market since it opened in the mid-nineties. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
“We are delighted to receive the IGBC’s Gold rating,” said Sebi Joseph, president, Otis India. “Since 2014, the factory has doubled its manufacturing capacity and its localization program has enabled us to increasingly fulfill our customers’ needs.”
The Bengaluru-based factory was also recently recognized by Manufacturing Today with its Excellence in Supply Chain Award.
Otis has been moving people and goods in India since it installed its first elevator in the country in 1892. Since then, Otis has played a critical role in enabling urbanization in the area that experts widely agree to be the second largest elevator market in the world.
Otis is the world’s leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways. Founded more than 165 years ago by the inventor of the safety elevator, Otis offers products and services through its companies in approximately 200 countries and territories.
