New Delhi: Congress party on Thursday described President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament as ‘hollow’ and ‘uninspiring’.
Speaking to the press, senior party Leader Anand Sharma and Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury claimed that President Kovind’s address was just a repetition of PM Modi’s speech.
“The President’s address was just a repetition of Modi’s speech. He has missed major points like unemployment and GDP downfall,” Anand Sharma said.
Notably, this comes after Rahul Gandhi’s apparent disrespect to President Kovind’s speech in the Central Hall. Congress President was constantly scrolling his phone while the President was briefing the house on government’s development agenda for 5 years.
Commenting on the President’s address, senior party leader Anand Sharma said, “the President’s address was a repeat of words which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government are very fond of.”

“In the past five years, we have heard words like standup India, startup India and Make in India, while the manufacturing and investments have declined to historic lows,” he added.
Sharma, who is the deputy leader of the Congress in Rajya Sabha, said, “The President’s address does not give an account of unfulfilled promises of the last 5 years made to our youth and farmers. It did not include anything on unemployment. We want manufacturing to be high and India to become the manufacturing hub but for that lot of work needs to be done.”
Congress leadership also disagreed with President’s push for ‘one nation, one election’ concept and claimed that simultaneous elections were not feasible due to the country’s diversity.
