New Delhi: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat got married with Somvir Rathee in the presence of their relatives and friends at former’s hometown Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. The couple got engaged in August after Vinesh’s historic win at the Asian Games.
The couple on Thursday took an additional vow “beti bachao, beti padhao, beti khilao (save daughters, teach daughters and to let them play)” during the wedding ceremony.
The couple has been in a relationship for the past 7-8 years.
Vinesh had won India a gold medal at the Asian Games when she beat Yuki Irie of Japan in the final of the women’s wrestling.
She also became the first Indian Woman Wrestler to win a gold medal at the Asian Games.
Vinesh Phogat is an Indian wrestler who comes from a successful background of wrestling with her cousins Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, both international wrestlers and Commonwealth Games medalists. She became the first Indian woman wrestler to win Gold in both Commonwealth and Asian games.
