New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said that party’s tie-up with Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) is gaining momentum and the alliance will sweep the elections in the Hindi heartland in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking at the Hindustan Shikhar Samagam programme of ABP news, Akhilesh said, “As compared to 2014 LS polls, issues and electoral challenges have changed. So, we have also switched our ally and strategy and formed a new coalition to take on BJP.”
Though, Akhilesh steered clear of any remarks on Congress, but it becomes apparent that ‘Bua-Bhatija’ are all set to unite against Yogi-led BJP government.
Akhilesh giving cold-shoulder to Rahul Gandhi assumes significance as the SP-Congress aspired for big victory in 2017 UP Assembly elections, while rallying around the theme “Apne UP ke Ladke”. However, their miserable performance in the elections drifted them apart.
‘Won’t reveal strategy for 2019 LS polls’
Despite repeated questioning, Akhilesh remained mum on Mahagathbandhan and refused to divulge strategy for 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He said that SP-BSP have defeated BJP in Kairana, Phulpur and Gorakhpur and asserted that same will be replicated in 2019 elections.
“Nation is waiting for a new Prime Minister,” said Akhilesh taking a jibe at BJP.
‘No ambition for PM, my priority is Uttar Pradesh’
Akhilesh said that he doesn’t harbour any Prime Ministerial ambition and his sole aim is development of Uttar Pradesh.
“My dream is good infrastructure in the state, jobs and employment to youths,” said Akhilesh.
Boasting of Agra-Lucknow expressway, the former UP CM said that many of his government’s schemes are being inaugurated by the incumbent BJP government while giving no credit to his government.
Jibe at Chacha Shivpal
When asked about sidelining uncle Shivpal in the party, Akhilesh replied that his leaving the party will clear the party of dynasty politics allegations.
“He called us Nawazwadi party because SP gave him everything. But, we still respect him and call him uncle,” said former UP CM.
