New Delhi: In a sharp contradiction to Rahul Gandhi’s pitch for women reservation bill, the Congress Core Group Committee has no woman member in it. The Congress chief Rahul Gandhi today constituted the Core Group Committee, Manifesto Committee and Publicity Committee for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Core Group Committee consists of nine members but not a single woman leader has been given place in the top body of the Congress party. Manifesto Committee comprises 19 members and Publicity Committee 13 members.
Now the question being asked is why Rahul Gandhi did not include a woman leader of his party in the Core Group Committee which will be taking quite key decisions ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This apex body of the Congress party will be taking decisions on various issues vis-a-vis formulation of strategy for the 2019 parliamentary elections. But the body will have no woman representative.
AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot has released the list of leaders whom the committees consist of. There are no big surprises in the list. What is significant is that Shashi Tharoor has been included in the Manifesto Committee whose Hindu Taliban jib had kicked up a row. Tharoor had also drawn Rahul Gandhi’s ire for that. But now Congress MP Tharoor has been included in the manifesto committee, which is an important development.
