How to make your own Advent calendar
The Advent Calendar is one of the most popular symbols that warn that the Christmas season is approaching. The development of this iconic calendar through crafts can be a good excuse to spend time with children, as well as begin to involve them in Christmas.
The Advent calendar is used as a way to keep countdown from December 1 to Christmas Eve. It is usually aimed at children, who use it to know how many days are missing until Christmas arrives.
Its origin dates from the late nineteenth century. It arises in Germany in the bosom of evangelical families, who hung 24 images in relation to Christmas to prepare until Christmas Eve. The first calendar with chocolate inside was printed in the 1920s.
This craft, in addition, can be a good opportunity to instill typical values of Christmas such as love, solidarity, family, generosity, etc.
For this, we indicate all the steps to achieve an original Advent calendar made by ourselves.
What materials do we need?
- Scraps of cloth.
- Felt pens.
- Glass jars.
- Baubles, chocolate, etc.
How do we do it?
To make the calendar we will use the scraps of fabric, with which we will make some small bags that we will use to keep the surprise that we want inside. The surprise can be a bauble, some chocolate or some small gift, among others. This can be accompanied by a paper or cardboard in which you have written some of the values mentioned above, giving it an educational value.
Then we close the bags with threads and we put a number from one to 24. The numbering can be done with a marker, with stickers, glitter, photos, etc.
Finally, the bags can be tied with wool, placed in glass jars or any other idea that comes to mind. Every day, from December 1 to 24, a member of the family will open one of the bags and receive the surprise that is inside.
