Today, earlier in an article about electric vehicles, I named the first vehicle of this type that I tested in 2015, the Kia Soul EV , with which I had a funny little moment when I tried to start it for the first time. At that time it seemed like nothing was happening, no noise, nothing and I waiting for the start of the engine without thinking it was a car with electric motor, luckily in a few seconds I reacted, I laughed.
The above happens with electric vehicles and to some extent with hybrids, which although they include an electric motor, also include a gasoline engine and depending on the vehicle are also very quiet when starting the engine.
Then with the walk, electric and hybrid, without thinking about the engines, can present noise that may come from the route, the wheels and other parts such as suspension and is in this last in what Lexus thought when he developed the new Lexus ES 300h Hybrid , caring for the design and structure of the suspension, to try to maximize the quietude and also minimize the noise that can cause.
In this aspect, Lexus developed a new type of Shock Absorber with an oscillating valve and an ultra-slow speed valve, something that when detecting even the slightest movement of the wheels and the suspension, offers the application of the damping force, which results in stillness, silence and of course stability, whatever the speed.
Lexus explains that the system of the new shock absorber is unprecedented in the automotive industry globally. The shock absorber is able to offer stability, quietness and silence due to the way in which the oil circulates within the new arrangement of the valves of the same.
The new shock absorber of the ES 300h has a main valve and another one of ultra slow speed, which allows the oil to circulate slowly and when the oil circulates between low and high speeds, the main valve opens, suppressing in this way the force of cushioning and thus offer a much smoother ride than you get with other shock absorbers.
According to the Japanese company, the stability of the Lexus ES 300h also has to do with the development of the new design of its double-triangle rear suspension, which has placed the axes of the system with maximum precision, which offers a unique stiffness to the structure. This allows them to obtain an excellent result to any feedback from the driver at the wheel and of course a unique stability.
Lexus says that when they evaluated the operation of this new vehicle, tests that were developed in Europe, had different types of pavement and roads, which include the German roads without speed limit, winding roads in the mountains and city streets with different pavements and irregularities. Of course they also tried out on circuits like the iconic Nürburgring circuit.
Finally Lexus explains that in order not to take space from the trunk, they had to install the shock absorbers closer to the back of the second row of seats and separated from the coil springs.
