For Twitter now all emojis are the same, they will only occupy two characters

One of the biggest changes on Twitter occurred in November of 2017 when it increased the number of characters allowed in tweets from 140 to 280 characters.

Despite that and leaving aside links included in the tweets, not always one has the same number of characters, especially when we include Emojis, as there are differences in the way in which the written text and emojis are encoded. Some emojis need more characters than others, including those in which gender and skin tone can be applied, so the number of characters for the written text is less.

That is why now and in support of the recent updates that were made to Unicode, for Twitter all emojis will be equal to the moment of the character count, including those in which gender (male or female) and skin tone are applied, all will count only 2 characters.

For example up to now an emoji with the addition of gender and skin tone occupied 9 characters, with the update will only occupy 2 characters, like the rest of emojis.

This news was made known through the community of Twitter developers, in an article in which they also announced an update of the Open Source library –  twitter-text  109  – to include the change in the character count of the emojis and launched a new library for the implementation of Javascript –  twemoji-parser  43 – that allows to identify emojis in a chain of characters.
