Ethereum developers post launch of Constantinople update

Ethereum developers have announced the postponement of the launch of Constantinople updates Ropsten test Network.

As the Twitter manager of the Ethereum Foundation, Peter Siladi, explained in  Twitter  , the main reason for the delay is the allocation of additional time for customers, that is, individual and corporate users who are the operators of the nodes in the Ethereum network, so that they can respond to the vulnerability found in one of the five main aspects Constantinople.

In addition, the delay will allow users of the Ropsten network to spend additional time testing other Ethereum projects, including the off-site solution for scaling Raiden, and to prepare for a possible chain separation that may occur as a result of the implementation of Constantinople.

Constantinople requires the so-called “hard forks” and includes a number of changes affecting rewards for miners, code execution, data storage, etc. Ropsten test network nodes must be ready to activate the update at the same time, otherwise they risk remaining in the old network.

Raiden Lefteris Karapetsas, the developer, said in an open discussion with other Ethereum developers that even a temporary split of the test network would make “testing his project almost impossible,” while it is “pretty close to launching on the main network.”

In order to avoid unnecessary manipulations, the developer Alexey Akhunov proposed to launch an alternative test network and solve the most pressing problems there before implementing on the Ropsten network with current users.

Thus, the new release date of Constantinople in the Ropsten network was set on October 14, when the block of 4.23 million will be released approximately, as agreed by the developers and users of the test network.

Ciladia warned that a further postponement of the activation date of Constantinople will lead to the fact that the implementation of the update will have to take place even more busy time, when developers will have to attend the fourth annual conference Devcon, which will be held on October 30 in Prague.
