Canada Express Entry changes- how they proved improvement

In the last quarter of 2016, Canada made several changes to its immigration system. The authorities worked on several factors like additional points for sibling, score for Job Offer, Canadian education, extension of submission deadline etc. IRCC now revealed a new statistics which show a comparison of how Express Entry worked for candidates and the country before and after the rule changes occurred. In various areas, this change proved to be good- in fact a lot better.  The report highlights few areas that served best with the change.

Core Human Capital Factors were valued most:

Of the overall figure, it is calculated that majority of the successful applicants represented the Federal Skilled Worker Class. Successful candidates were able to get an ITA solely based on their core human capital factors (like age, English/French language proficiency, qualification, work experience, etc). These factors are strongly correlated to higher earning potential”-says a statement in the IRCC report.

Nearly 48 percent of all candidates invited to apply in the first half of 2017 were candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Class. Before these changes, FSW candidates accounted for 25 percent of invitations through Express Entry. IRCC expects it to become the “main source of invitations” with the continuation of larger EE Draws in this New Year.

No job offer made no worry:

Amazingly, even without a Canadian Job Offer, thousands of candidates were lucky to receive an ITA. IRCC says that during the first half of 2017, 90% of successful applicants who received ITA did not have any Canadian job offer. Astonishingly, this number eventually went higher even after IRCC reduced the number of points for a valid job offer in hand.

PNPs brought out all their good:

Provincial Nominee programs in 2017 became more prominent than ever.  The additional 600 points for receiving a PNP helped candidates to a great extent. The study confirms that 3,722 ITAs were issued to candidates in the first half of 2017. The number continued to increase more throughout, till year end.

Canadian Education proved big worth:

Awarding candidates with an additional score for Canadian study not only facilitated applicants of PR but also encouraged students to stay back in the Maple country for a long term. According to the IRCC report, the average number of eligible profile submissions by former international students went up to 3,481 per month, from an average of 1,866 per month. Moreover, the Canadian study points increased 10 percent of the ITAs issued to candidates with Canadian adaptability factors.

India won the crown of largest ITAs:

Even before the rule change and after the changes, the largest number of nationals who received ITAs represented India. The share of ITAs for Indians improved throughout the year- 12 percent to 31 percent to 43 percent. Followed by Indian nationals, applicants from China received the second largest & citizens of Nigeria received the third largest ITAs in 2017. Unfortunately, there was a drastic drop in the ITA count for the United Kingdom and the United States citizens.

Time extension brought ease factor:

Before the extension of 90 days from 60 days occurred, many applicants missed out the deadline. The report highlights that nearly 10 percent of the candidates who received their ITAs missed the deadline during the previous 30 days tenure. IRCC says this measure has given applicants ample time to collect their necessary document and submit a complete application before the deadline.

Well, it does not end with that. There was a vast shift in the occupation category that was most in demand after the changes occurred. According to the to the IRCC report, top 10 occupation categories invited most through Express Entry are here below:

NOC 21 – Professional occupations in natural and applied sciences
NOC 11 – Professional occupations in business and finance
NOC 01-05 – Specialized middle management occupations
NOC 12 – Administrative and financial supervisors

NOC 40 – Professional occupations in education services
NOC 62 – Retail sales supervisors and specialized sales occupations
