Suspect in Custody Following Stranger Stabbing in Mississauga

Police have taken a suspect into custody allegedly responsible for a stranger stabbing on January 10, 2022, in Mississauga.

On Tuesday, January 10, 2022, at approximately 4:40 p.m. Peel Regional Police responded to Hurontario Street and John Street for reports of a stabbing. Officers arrived on the scene and located a 19 year-old-male suffering from a significant stab wound. The suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a southern direction.

The victim was taken to a trauma centre, where he remains in serious but stable condition. The suspect and victim do not appear to be known to each other.

Detectives from the 11 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau quickly identified the man believed to be the suspect as 34-year-old David Dytlow of Toronto, and a warrant for his arrest was sought.

On Wednesday, January 11, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., while on an unrelated matter, patrol officers from 11 Division spotted Dytlow at a Mississauga Hospital and swiftly took him into custody without incident.

David Dytlow has been charged with the following Criminal Code Offences:

  • Attempted Murder

  • 3x Fail to Comply with Release Order

At the time of his arrest, Dytlow was on judicial release for several criminal offences, including assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats. One of these incidents took place in Peel Region in 2021, where Dytlow is alleged to have stabbed an individual. Dytlow was prohibited from carrying weapons. Dytlow remains in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
