No to drinking and driving, weapons at parties: Punjab Police advisory ahead of New Year celebrations

Ahead of the anticipated New Year’s celebrations, the Punjab Police issued a citizen advisory to ensure safety and carefulness at the celebrations across the state.

Authorities have strongly advised citizens against consuming alcohol in public places, as well as carrying weapons to parties, celebrations and gatherings.

Around 1,500 police personnel have been deployed in Mohali itself to ensure safety ahead of the anticipated celebrations welcoming the new year.

Eateries and restaurants have reportedly been permitted to remain open only till 1 am, and violators will be booked,  according to authorities.

Special speed and drunk driving nakas have also reportedly been set up throughout the city of Mohali.

The aforementioned New Years advisory includes:

  • Do not drink alcohol in public places; do not drink and drive.

  • Do not carry weapons to parties.

  • Dial 112/181 in case of emergency.

  • Do not fall for fake online New Year offers.

  • Beware of unknown people at parties.

  • Do not allow minors to drive.
