Project Barbell, under which, the investigation began in the fall of 2021, a series of search warrants lead to the seizure of 62 firearms. With it, a large quantity of ammunition and firearm parts with overcapacity magazines was also seized.

As per the police, a majority of firearms were seized from a building near Ellesmere and Markham Roads.

The investigation began after the members of the Toronto Police Service became aware of two individuals who were suspected for the tracking of firearms within the city.

Police Chief James Ramer said at a news conference, “While we are here to show the public the results of a successful investigation this is not a good news story, we should all be disturbed by a gun seizure of this magnitude.”

As per the police, “the officers ultimately executed a series of search warrants at addresses and vehicles associated with the suspects on May 28.”
