Family Frozen to Death Near US-Canada Border Belongs to…..

Though there has been no official confirmation from either the Ministry of External Affairs of India or Canada Border Service Agency, about the original place of residence of the family of four who died while attempting to cross the US-Canada border due to severe cold but some people believe that the family was Gujarati and belongs to Dingucha village in Gandhinagar district.

A relative of the family has said to the authorities that he was unable to contact them as they had recently left for Canada.

Authorities of both US and Canada believe that they failed while crossing the border during a blizzard.

According to the relatives Jagdish Patel along with his wife and two children, had recently left for Canada and they are out of contact now for the last three-four days.

As per Canadian officials, a family of four Indian nationals which includes a baby, were found frozen to death just inside the Canadian side of the International border with the US as they reportedly attempted to cross over illegally.

According to Canadian authorities, a group of 11 migrants from India was trying to cross the border. While four members of a family has died, seven other attempting to cross the border illegally have been detained

India’s high commissioner to Canada, Ajay Bisaria, on Twitter account, called the deaths a “grave tragedy”  and said a consular team has been sent to Manitoba to offer assistance.

Steve Shand, a 47-year-old from Florida, has been charged with human smuggling in connection with the incident.
