Spring Cleaning Week Shout Out to Hotels

Sani-Chem Cleaning Supplies
Hello Spring!

It’s National Spring Cleaning Week …

April 5 through April 11th is National Spring Cleaning week. This year it just happens to coincide with some rather wicked winter weather in the North East with a Nor’easter slamming the East Coast with 50 million people in the path of this brutal winter storm. A time to stay home, snuggle down and prepare for the inevitable.

But Spring is coming. It is. Believe.

Count Down to Red Robin Sitings

It’s an irony but the first red robin, daffodils and mud season are just around the corner. With that comes Spring Cleaning. Spring cleaning is such a wonderful ritual.

A revelation that after a long winter of being stuffed in and stuffed up, cabin fever comes to an end. Throw open the windows, dust off and clear out all the trappings of winter like boots, coats, scarves, and shovels.

Even in Florida, though the nuances of winter life are different, Spring is in the air. Floridians get Spring Fever too, we just don’t have shovels, snow boots and windshield ice scrapers to remind us.

Spring Rituals

For cleaning professionals, National Spring Cleaning Week is a great time to tackle in-depth projects and particularly complex detail cleaning. Keeping clients informed and suggesting a yearly “Spring Clean” ritual is a win-win for all concerned.

National Spring Cleaning week is a great time for hotels to tackle seasonal projects in preparation for warmer times when time constraints are at a premium.

In Florida, Spring Break usually doesn’t allow any extra time for in-depth projects, so now is the time to put a little elbow grease into bigger projects beyond day to day cleaning protocols and maintenance.

For professionals in the hospitality or hotel industry, we suggest 5 tasks that might seem a bit time-consuming, however, we are here to tell you, they are worth it. One word: “Reviews”

We think these few steps will put your hotel no matter how big, small, boutique or eclectic head and shoulders above the rest.

Do These Things …

Linens & Room Accessories

Check all linens and room accessories – Spots and stains on linens may be inevitable, but ignoring them is not. With proper individualized treatment, many can be salvaged. Spartan Clothesline Fresh All Purpose Spotter is the bomb. This product treats a wide spectrum of stains.

For everything else, check for signs of wear and tear. If bed sheets and bathrobes are looking rather shabby, get rid of them.

No guest deserves that kind of insult during their well-deserved vacation, get-a-way or honeymoon. Remember. Reviews!

A 5 Star review will more than make up for the investment when new guests book, and, and, tell all of their friends and post relentlessly in every social media platform imaginable.

Carpet & Tile

Deep clean carpets and tile – Eliminate stains on carpet and tile floors. It’s a big turn off for guests and not hygienic. Perception is reality. Go ahead, do a quick Google search “dirty carpet, hotel” … see what we mean? This is completely preventable. It’s a small investment, does not take an army of professionals to deal with spot cleaning and will probably save your business thousands in the long run.

Tile can usually be dealt with rather easily with cleaning products already on hand. It’s just a matter of inspecting problem areas and dealing with it.

Heavily stained carpeted areas should be addressed swiftly and thoroughly. CFR All Purpose Spotter – Carpet Cleaner is an exceptional product and designed to remove heavy duty spots and stains on carpets.

Lighting Fixtures

Rinse the lighting fixtures – Lighting fixtures may be overlooked when staff is in a hurry preparing for guests waiting for their room in the lobby. However, it’s important to take five and use Spring Cleaning Week as a time to address the minutia, the details that may seem obscure.

From lamps to chandeliers in the hotel lobby, executive rooms, and beyond, all lighting fixtures should be cleaned and polished. Simple Green Industrial Cleaner will make short work of it. For chandeliers, spray cleaner onto each crystal and wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Clean the curtains – Yes, you read that right. We know, we know, that’s a lot to ask. But after a year or so? Yeah, the curtains need to be laundered. Curtains hold odor. If you’ve ever washed curtains in your own home and noticed how clean and fresh the room was after cleaning, the same is true for hotel rooms – tenfold.

Hundreds of people in the room contribute to the “fragrance” over a period of time, so just make this a yearly ritual (at least) and choose a time to get it done – like during National Spring Cleaning Week as an example. Remove all dust by vacuuming first and then launder.

Seventh Generation Natural Liquid Laundry Detergent is Lavender & Blue Eucalyptus Scented and smells amahhzing! It’s unique formula contains plant-derived cleaning agents and triple enzymes to make short work of even the toughest stains, but is gentle to your world.

Silver & Stainless Steel

Polish silver and stainless steel details – Make sure silver accents in guest rooms and bathrooms are well polished and sparkling. It is preferable that this task is not reserved for National Spring Cleaning Week, but just in case, add this to the “Must Do” list of Spring Cleaning projects and become a part of routine cleaning.

Spartan Superior High Shine Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish makes short work of it, quick, reliable, cost-effective and easy.

Great Expectations

It’s as obvious as March winter storms and the necessity for Spring cleaning, at the end of the day we all want the same thing. Predictability.

Storms will end. Spring will come. Spring cleaning will happen. Hotel rooms will be clean, fresh and sparkling. Otherwise, what is the point?

If guests have a bad experience due to cleaning negligence, do a little soul searching and come up with a better plan. With so many fabulous cleaning products in the marketplace today, there really are no excuses.
